JOB TITLE: Engineering Lead
SALARY: £86,964 to £102,310
LOCATIONS: Edinburgh or Leeds
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week at our Edinburgh or Leeds hub.

As an Engineering Lead you’ll spearhead a multi-disciplined team of engineers, taking accountability for delivery and operational activities. You’ll be passionate about technology, both current and future trends, and will look for opportunities to bring these into the Lab, whilst being a role model for your team and colleagues around you.
Things you’ll be great at:
- You’ll have a hands-on technical background, allowing you to offer deep technical guidance and recommendations to the Product Owner and Customer Journey Managers, focusing on minimizing technical debt, aligning with the technology roadmap, and prioritizing technical objectives.
- Overseeing the engineering and delivery of reliable, scalable, performant, and secure solutions by utilizing endorsed technologies, applying common build patterns, and adhering to established development practices. Collaborate with Architecture and Technical Communities to drive solution reuse, avoid complexity, and prevent the creation of point solutions.
- Taking hands on ownership for unblocking technical challenges, whilst looking forward to prove out new patterns and technical solutions ready for full use within your team, lab or platform.
- Collaborating with Agility Leads to advance the effectiveness of the team by installing change that increases the cadence of delivery, reduces cost ownership, and persists high quality of change. Champion the benefits of a single common framework over team specific practices.
- Working to build a strong team by coaching, developing and mentoring. Attracting new talent into the team and by mitigating retentions risks within the team.
- Investing to develop your own technical and leadership skills, keeping a close eye on emerging technologies that may add value to the technology stack within the Lab.

What you'll need
- Deep hands-on technical knowledge as a seasoned software engineer
- Modern engineering knowledge from across a broad range of solutions and platforms, including microservices, build patterns, DevOps, data, automation, hosting, language & platform choices etc.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills, able to work and influence across functional boundaries up to director level, with an ability to cut through complexity.
- Experience of navigating a complex systems architecture, comprised of modern and legacy solutions, and in-house and product solutions, using both on-premise and Cloud hosting.
- Practical experience of software design, build and release using DevOps principles and practices, with hands-on experience of JavaScript / typescript, GCP, test automation, and automated pipelines.
- An ability to managing complex delivery, bringing together teams from within and outside the Bank around a shared outcome to deliver successfully.
- Experience of mentoring and coaching engineers to build a world class engineering capability, with a passion for coaching, developing colleagues and building a strong team culture that radiates far beyond your team alone.
- An ever-developing knowledge of, and interest in, engineering principles, practices and technologies.
