JOB TITLE: Engineering Lead
SALARY: £124,653 - £146,650
LOCATION(S): Manchester or Bristol
HOURS: Full time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our locations listed above.

We have a great opportunity for an Engineering Lead to be a senior level technical expert and leader with vision. We're looking for a curious person with a real passion for technology, a commitment to growth and development with experience of modern engineering methods and tooling.
Working in the Enterprise Data Provisioning Platform, you can help shape the Group’s ambition by enabling the bank to gain value from data by providing safe and efficient Group wide data capabilities and services.

What you'll be doing
We are a large enterprise developing a state-of-the-art data mesh architecture on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to facilitate decentralised, self-serve data products across various teams.
In this role, you will set the vision and mobilise the necessary teams to ensure a successful delivery. Your focus will be on enhancing ways of working and the overall engineering experience. If you are passionate about designing scalable solutions in complex systems and promoting data democratization, we want you to join us. Day to day you’ll:

Drive the engineering vision, set engineering standards, and solve the most complex technical challenges.

Lead the development of high-quality software products, ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance, security, and reliability.

Influence the technical direction of the organisation, mentor engineering teams, and ensure the delivery of robust, scalable, secure and innovative solutions.

Advise engineering teams and senior leadership.

Collaborate closely with product owners, architects, and other stakeholders to prioritise and deliver the engineering roadmap.

Foster an engineering culture of experimentation, learning and continuous innovation.

Shape and contribute to the overall technical strategy.

Manage multiple change initiatives, including roadmaps, budgets, scheduling and resource assignment.

Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies, continuously advancing the state of technology within the organisation.

What skills you’ll need

Software Engineering - Possess a deep understanding of the software lifecycle, ensuring high standards in design, development, testing, and deployment.

Cloud Platform - Familiarity with cloud platforms such as GCP, Azure or AWS.

Technology leadership - Capable of defining and maintaining engineering standards, aligning solutions with business objectives and architectural principles.

Technology delivery - Provide technology leadership across technical components and complex cross-cutting deliveries spanning multiple platforms and business units.

Values - Forward-thinking, capable of delivering solutions that meet business and customer needs. An early adopter of change, driving organisational transformation at pace with a growth mindset.

Leadership - Foster an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued, irrespective of their background. Inspire others to achieve their full potential by offering valuable insights, strategic guidance, and promoting effective problem-solving.
In addition, any experience of these would be useful:

Data Engineering and AI - Knowledge of data mesh concepts (e.g., domain-driven ownership, data product thinking) and AI-driven automation

GCP - Expertise in services, including BigQuery, Data Fusion, Cloud Composer, IAM, and others

Leading and running a cloud-based data migration to ensure a seamless transition and minimal disruption

Ability to define objectives and measure metrics
