Engineering Director

Position Overview: The Engineering Director will be responsible for leading scaled product development teams at Dentsu Creative, focusing on cloud engineering, cloud-native application development, DevOps, container applications, and AI + Data enabled applications. This role requires close collaboration with senior business and technical stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of a large product portfolio. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in the Microsoft Azure Cloud Stack, proficiency in modern cloud engineering practices, a deep understanding of building scaled data-driven applications and solutions, and a good understanding of modern automation and AI workflows.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and Steer Product Dev Teams: Lead, Steer and manage product development teams to design, develop, and deploy cloud-native products and solutions.
• Navigate Ambiguity: Lead teams through uncertain and evolving project landscapes by providing clear direction and maintaining focus on strategic goals. Develop strategies to manage risks and uncertainties effectively.
• Deal with Complexity: Break down complex problems into manageable tasks and guide the team in developing innovative solutions. Utilize systems thinking to understand the interdependencies within projects and ensure cohesive progress.
• Manage Product Delivery Under Tight Timelines: Oversee the architecture, planning, execution, and delivery of projects within strict deadlines. Prioritize tasks, allocate resources efficiently, and ensure that milestones are met without compromising quality.
• Solution Architecture Leadership: Lead a team of enterprise architects, solution architects, and technology leads to define and establish the best-fit solution for a variety of products and apps within the overall product portfolio, leveraging well-architected design best practices.
• Architect and Deliver High-Quality Solutions: Implement rigorous quality assurance processes to ensure that all deliverables meet the highest standards. Foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within the team.
• Mentor and Develop Team Members: Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to team members. Encourage a collaborative and inclusive environment where everyone can contribute and grow.
• Global Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with senior business, product, and technical stakeholders at Dentsu across regions and geographies, to align engineering initiatives with business objectives. Communicate effectively to ensure that all parties are informed and engaged throughout the project lifecycle.
• Collaboration with Global Technology: Collaborate with all functions within Global Technology at Dentsu, including Security, Networking and Cloud Operations, and Enterprise teams.
• Collaboration with Global Technology Partners: Collaborate closely with Tech and Product Leadership within our Global Technology Partner organizations, including our partner reps at Microsoft, to bring and adopt the latest product/tech/platform capabilities across our solutions.
• Innovation and Best Practices: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in cloud technologies and integrate them into the development process. Establish and maintain best practices for cloud development and deployment.
• Resource Management: Work with Project Managers to manage project resources, including budget, personnel, and technology, to ensure optimal utilization and project success.
• Performance Monitoring: Track and evaluate the performance of cloud solutions post-deployment. Use data-driven insights to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.
• Crisis Management: Lead the team in responding to unforeseen challenges and crises. Develop contingency plans and ensure that the team is prepared to handle disruptions effectively.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Significant Experience in Platform Engineering and Scaled Product Development: Minimum of 20+ years of experience in leading product development and product engineering teams, to enable technology delivery of large-scale complex cloud solutions and custom products.
• Expertise in Cloud Engineering: Experience in architecting, building, and deploying scaled cloud platforms and solutions, leveraging modern cloud engineering best practices. Minimum of 15+ years of experience in architecting large-scale cloud solutions.
• Expertise in Cloud-Native Application Development: Strong experience in developing and deploying cloud-native applications using containerization and microservices architectures.
• Expertise in API Management, Definition and Deployment: Strong experience in defining, designing and deploying enterprise APIs for consumption across multiple services and applications. Strong experience with leveraging APIs to create a connected ecosystem of apps, services and data.
• Proficiency in DevOps Practices: Deep understanding of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing.
• Experience with Container Apps and AKS: Proficiency in developing and managing containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes, with a focus on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Azure Container Apps.
• Depth in Modern Front-End Web Technology: Extensive experience with modern front-end technologies such as React and Redux, including state management, component-based architecture, and front-end performance optimization.
• Depth in Back-End API Technology and Microservices: Strong proficiency in developing and managing back-end services and APIs using technologies such as Node.js, and Python, with a focus on microservices architecture and RESTful services.
• Expertise in Serverless development and deployment models: Experience with developing and deploying apps in a serverless model, using technologies such as Azure Functions or AWS Lambdas.
• Expertise in Data, Data Platforms and Data Aggregation: In-depth knowledge of working with data-driven applications and data-driven solutions. This includes cloud databases, data platforms, data warehousing, data lakes, and data aggregation techniques, with specific expertise in MongoDB, Azure Cosmos DB, Snowflake Cloud, and Microsoft Fabric.
• Expertise in Customer Data Management, Personalization and Activation: In-depth knowledge of working with Customer Data, and using customer data to drive a high-degree of personalization in all creative output, across multiple creative content types.
• In-Depth Understanding of Modern Enterprise Integration and AI-enabled Automation: Proficiency in modern enterprise integration and automation facilitated via data and agentic AI workflows, including the use of tools and platforms for seamless integration and process automation.
• Modern Integrated Process and Workflow Automation, enabled by AI: Leadership in architecting and realizing integrated solutions, workflows and processes, that leverage AI and Agentic AI patterns, to enable end-to-end workflows that cut across individual apps and products.
• Interoperability and Orchestration across Apps and Platforms within a larger product portfolio, enabled by Workflows and AI:  Lead the solution architecture for managing interoperability and seamless orchestration across all applications within a larger product portfolio, considering various architectural approaches and methods.
• Collaboration Skills: Proven ability to collaborate with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.
• Leadership Experience: Demonstrated experience in leading and managing engineering teams, with a focus on cloud-native product development.
• Educational Background: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience working with multi-disciplinary teams, across Business, Product, Solution Architecture, User Experience, and Technology.
• Prior experience and exposure within the creative, creative technology, creative production, and advertising industry.
• Experience working and collaborating with creative technology teams.
• Certifications in Microsoft Azure Cloud Stack or related technologies.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
