About the Role
This role provides students with a comprehensive and immersive learning experience across various key functions within the organization. By rotating through departments such as trim, materials, structures, JIT, warranty, validation, and innovation, the co-op will gain a holistic understanding of the automotive seating industry. This program aims to cultivate versatile and skilled individuals who can contribute to Magna Seating's commitment to innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction. Through hands-on projects, cross-functional collaboration, and exposure to real-world challenges, the co-op will develop the technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and professional acumen necessary to excel in their future careers.
Your Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities will vary depending on students rotational placement each working term.
  • Generally assigned to components, sub-assemblies, or systems that are less complex in nature, e.g. carry over parts, existing business, and/or minor modifications. Where assigned to systems, responsibility is usually for component(s) within the system.
  • Coordinate the complete development for the designated products including, but not limited to design and release, build and test activities, in accordance with standard operating procedures and the product delivery process.
  • Incorporate customer requirements, regulations and product specifications into the design of the designated products, ensuring compliance with operational, cost, timing, safety, reliability, quality, and manufacturing feasibility parameters.
  • Analyze products and formulates engineering conclusions by the application of engineering and/or mathematical principles and tools.
  • Support Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA), Design of Experiments (DOE), Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) and Design for Manufacturing/Design for Assembly (DFM/DFA) in the development of the product.
  • Write/compile engineering content for the following deliverables: engineering specifications and documentation, including DVP&R's, 8D's, GD&T, BOM, prototype control plans, key product characteristics, engineering changes and work orders.
  • Consult and collaborate with personnel in various engineering and design activities relative to product development requirements.
  • Support effective communications within the project team and the customer, supplier, manufacturing and quality communities with guidance from engineering management and senior engineering personnel. Maintain all appropriate documentation.
  • Provide engineering direction and support to design personnel.
  • Review and approve engineering designs. Review, approve, complete, and submit required change notices to ensure design outputs meet design inputs.
  • Maintain good housekeeping of the area.
  • Ensure adherence to company, departmental and health and safety systems and policies to meet legislative requirements.
  • Supports Internal / External Audit efforts regarding ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949 Certification for remote site location (Group Office).
  • Supports the requirements as detailed in Standard Operating Procedure 8000 (Quality Management System).
  • Ensure employees work in the manner consistent with the organizations established objectives and targets utilizing protective equipment, devices, measures, and procedures as promulgated by state and federal regulations. Establish clear goals for workplace health and safety. Complete safety talks, safety meetings, and required training occur, as defined

Your preferred qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Basic knowledge of CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) is a plus.
  • Ability to adapt to different work environments and learn quickly.
