Our IT Systems Operations team is seeking a Cloud Platform Engineer to implement complex local and wide-area systems architecture. This role manages a large systems enterprise. The incumbent will work under general direction from Director of Systems Administration. The Cloud Platform Engineer has the opportunity to work cross-functionally with several teams to ensure optimal operation and growth of our computing resources from both a cost and technology perspective.

Responsibilities:

Management and Support of Production, test and development environments including cloud and on-prem infrastructure:

  • Perform patch management and system upgrades
  • Setup installation of monitoring and security products such as OS hardening
  • Install and configure new equipment, break/fix maintenance on equipment
  • Plan, support and execute migration of on-prem systems to cloud environments
  • Management and implementation of disaster recovery strategy
  • Evaluate new cloud offerings and implement instance migration strategies across services
  • Define and document best practices and strategies regarding infrastructure and application deployment on cloud and on-prem environments



Configure, manage and optimize on-prem and cloud infrastructure for performance, cost and high availability:

  • Ensure all necessary resources are being properly monitored.
  • Assist cross-functioning team to base on monitoring trends
  • Handle, manipulate and analyze capacity data and information effectively.
  • Ensure application performance, uptime, and scale, maintaining high standards of code quality and thoughtful design
  • Drive efficiency initiatives to help right-size cloud resources
  • Assist in cloud capacity planning and performance analysis
  • Conduct bottleneck evaluation to identify performance issues



Document processes and procedures related to system administration and tasks assigned to the UNIX group. Mentor and train less experienced team members.

Required Experience

  • A BS degree in computer science or Information Technology or a related field or equivalent combination of education and or experience.
  • AWS or related certifications a plus.
  • 4 to 5 years of previous systems administration experience on multiple hardware platforms and operating systems in a large environment (at least 200 servers).
  • 3 years of experience with cloud environments - preferably AWS
  • Knowledge of LINUX and UNIX-based operating systems.
  • Working skill level in system performance tuning and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to design and implement improved methods and researching problems
  • Knowledge of deployment in an UNIX/Linux operating environment in a cloud platform (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Knowledge of networking concepts.
  • Some knowledge of Storage Area Networks (SANS)
  • Extensive programming background in any shell language. Desirable Perl and phyton preferred
  • Knowledge of high availability techniques such as clustering and load balancing.
  • Extensive Analytical, budgeting and planning skills.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
