The Opportunity:
The Network Engineer will play a key role in global network operations including design, support, implementation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and documentation. Focus will be on supporting day to day network operations, systems and network capacity, redundancy, high availability, implementation of network best practices and technologies while maintaining performance for critical applications. The position will work as part of a team, coordinating closely with the Information Security team and Technology leadership.
This position will require occasional after-hours and weekend work. The selected candidate will be expected to attend work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and perform other duties as assigned.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitor network performance and proactively identify optimization opportunities to enhance efficiency, scalability, reliability, security and cost-effectiveness in alignment with the organization requirements and goals
- Maintain network standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Disaster Recovery (DR) documentation, network diagrams, device, and license inventory.
- Administration of routers, switches, wireless, firewalls, and system monitoring tools.
- Maintain network policies and have knowledge of current security best practices and tools for a highly secure and available production environment.
- Validates overall network health, performance, availability, security, redundancy, and business continuity.
- Develop solutions to automate and improve network reliability and efficiency
- Serve as a technical expert, driving change to adopt new standards, maintaining reliability and improving performance metrics
- Provides Tier 3 support for the Enterprise network: including routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, Wi-Fi, monitoring, and reporting applications
- Participate in change management process including development of change management plan for production upgrades.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Expertise in deploying and managing network switches and firewalls like Cisco, Palo Alto, or similar hardware
- Ability and experience managing network in a hybrid environment (on premise and Cloud – Azure)
- Expertise in deploying, configuring, and supporting zero-trust networks
- Proficiency in various operating systems, network software, and utility programs
- Knowledge of risk assessment tools, technologies, and methods
- Advanced skills in scripting/programming in PowerShell/Python or other languages
- Advanced troubleshooting skills in Infrastructure devices and applications areas
- Experience in managing Linux and VMware is a plus
- Strong understanding of ITIL and change management
- Ability to write detailed documentation based on audit, regulatory requirements
- Ability to multitask and manage priorities
- Able to interact with senior leadership and client contacts
- Strong desire to learn and implement new technologies
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent Experience
- 5 years of experience providing network support, configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting for a medium to large enterprise network environment
- Must have a strong understanding of Enterprise networks, networking/security best practices, and have excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Proven experience with Palo Alto Prisma, Cisco networking products, Firepower, Meraki.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, experience to include research, technical writing, and documentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively and collaboratively as part of a team
