POSITION: Engineer, Controls III

Located in Rochester, NH, we specialize in designing and constructing custom automation equipment, with a focus on the medical and life science industries. In this role, you will have the opportunity to conceive & develop electrical system designs and create & optimize programs for all aspects of custom automation machinery. We are in search of an individual who thrives on managing concurrent projects in various stages, demonstrating a hands-on, detail-oriented, and self-motivated approach. In this role, you will be responsible for being a project lead for all aspects of the controls engineering tasks required to develop custom solutions that result in successful completion and conformance of all project requirements. This role could be a hybrid position consisting of on-site work and remote work. The expectation is for a minimum of 2-days per week being onsite and the remaining 3-days can be remote. We are able to offer this approach during several phases of projects, including the electrical design and programming phases. However, during the program integration and debug phase of each project, it is required that at least 4-days per week be on-site. This is important as it ensures safe and efficient machine power-up and testing. Due to the custom nature of the machines & solutions we provide, each project can have slightly different requirements that may influence the ability to work remotely.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Design clean-sheet automation systems from concept through production. Key responsibilities include:
- Translate Customer’s Requirement into Design Specification, Evaluate Design Feasibility and Provide Technical Expertise to Meet Customer’s Request.
- Design and develop electrical systems for custom automation solutions, ensuring optimal functionality, efficiency, and reliability.
- Program and configure PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), Robotics, safety systems devices, vision systems, and other control devices to ensure precise control and monitoring of automation processes.
- Conduct thorough testing and validation of control systems to identify and rectify any issues, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Provide technical support and expertise during the installation, commissioning, and maintenance phases of custom automation projects.
- Source and program motors, drives, actuators, robots, vision systems, sensors, servo

controls, etc.
- Responsible for full system programming, testing, debugging, commissioning, installation, service, and upgrades.
- Execute complete electrical designs, create professional electrical schematics and panel layouts.
- Perform Design Reviews with Internal & External Customers.
- Create and Review Detailed Bill of Materials for Accuracy (Quantities, Part #’s, Etc.).
- Alert Purchasing of Long-Lead Items.
- Maintain Schedule Milestones.
- Update and Revise Drawings as Required.
- Achieve Cost Targets Through Effective Design.
- Identify Potential High-Risk Areas During Initial Project Quoting Process.
- Provide Support to Operations During Build, Test & Evaluation.
- Stay Up to Date with Leading Edge Technology.
- Assist with Sales Calls.
- Contribute to Continuous Improvement Efforts Across Entire Organization.

EXPERIENCE & KEY SKILLS:
- Over 5+years of hands-on experience in designing, programming, and implementing control systems for custom automation projects.
- Extensive experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers and software developers, to integrate control systems seamlessly into automation projects.
- Strong understanding of custom automation requirements, with the ability to tailor solutions to meet the unique needs of clients.
- Excellent documentation skills, including the creation of control system architecture diagrams, wiring schematics, and user manuals.
- Must be thoroughly familiar with the Rockwell Control/Compact Logix platform.
- Experienced with writing PLC code from scratch for new designs from start to finish with strong emphasis on fault recoveries.
- Ability to provide technical support and expertise during installation, commissioning, and maintenance phases of custom automation projects.
- Proficient in programming PLCs, HMIs, and other control devices to achieve precise control and monitoring of automation processes.
- System level approach to the complete machine program with a high focus on recovery from start to finish.
- Experience in robotics, automation systems, vision systems, proximity and photo sensors, servo controls, etc.
- Competent skills with PC’s, networking, device communications, integration, and design.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical.
- Comprehensive knowledge of electrical component selection and panel layout design
- including materials, safety, and labeling practices.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for working with customers and team members. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, management, customers, and general public.
- Strong Knowledge in Commercial Components & Supporting Partners.
- Excellent Project Management and Analytical Skills.

EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
- BSEE or BSEET with 5+ years’ experience in industrial automation and controls development and commissioning.
- ASEE or ASEET with 10+ years’ experience in industrial automation and controls development and commissioning.
- Candidates with other degrees and appropriate experience will be considered (Associates
- Engineering Robotics and Automation Controls or Associates Degree in Electronics).
