We are currently looking for a highly motivated and creative Engineer Advanced Technology (M/F/D) to shape with us the future of optical communication and fiber optic sensing technology by joining our Advanced Technology team in Meiningen, Germany. With its large research laboratory equipped with high-performance devices and its proximity to the R&D department, this environment provides ideal research conditions. Furthermore, this position offers the opportunity to work towards a PhD degree.

Principle duties and essential functions

Performing research on optical transmission systems, sub-systems and distributed fiber sensing with focus on the physical layer
-
Setting up experimental assemblies in the laboratory and conducting experiments
-
Contribution to the organization of the laboratory
-
Cooperation with national and international project partners
-
Internal subproject lead for research and advanced development projects
-
Creative application of knowledge and experience in several of the following fields:
-
Technologies for increasing capacity of optical communication systems (multi-band transmission, space-division multiplexing)

Amplifier setups for new applications
-
Techniques for monitoring signal quality in optical networks
-
Joint data communication and distributed fiber sensing
-
Knowledge, skills and experience required
-
Diploma or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or related area
-
Good programing skills (e.g. Python, C/C++)
-
Good knowledge in optical transmission technologies and optical fiber effects
-
Laboratory experience in optical sub-system and system characterization
-
Ideally experience in one or more of the following topics:

Coherent optical transmission and optical modulation

Optical amplification and switching
-
Monitoring of signal quality in an optical network

Good presentation and communication skills

Innovative, highly motivated personality

Fluent oral and written English language skills, fluency in German is a plus

Capability to think strategic, innovative, constructive and application oriented
