Summary of the Role:
The Process Safety Professional plays a pivotal role in fostering a culture of safety and compliance within the organization. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining robust Process Safety Management (PSM) programs aligned with OSHA standards and AstraZeneca's OneSHE framework. The professional aims to prevent major hazardous material incidents, focusing on risk management, combustible dust hazards, and machine safety across all operations.
Responsibilities:
- Process Safety/PSM Compliance: Lead the implementation and management of PSM programs according to OSHA guidelines and AstraZeneca's standards to prevent uncontrolled releases of hazardous substances.
- Risk Management: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks associated with operations, employing methodologies like HAZOP, LOPA, and FTA. Ensure risk management processes meet ISO 31000 standards.
- Combustible Dust Management: Identify areas at risk of combustible dust hazards and implement control measures to prevent fires and explosions. Ensure compliance with relevant safety codes and best practices.
- Machine Safety: Evaluate and ensure the safety of machinery and automated systems through risk assessments, safeguarding evaluations, and implementation of safety procedures.
- PHAs and Incident Investigations: Facilitate Process Hazard Analyses and lead incident investigations to identify root causes, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Management of Change (MOC): Oversee the management of change processes to ensure all modifications comply with safety, health, and environmental standards.
- Training and Development: Develop and deliver comprehensive training sessions on process safety practices, emphasizing combustible dust hazards and machine safety to promote a proactive safety culture.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and maintenance, to incorporate safety considerations into all projects and operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a PSM-covered facility, preferably in the pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing sector.
- Certification in SHE-related disciplines is preferred.
- Proven expertise in facilitating PHA studies and conducting risk assessments.
- Familiarity with OSHA PSM standards and AstraZeneca's OneSHE framework.

- Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles and process safety concepts.
- Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies (HAZOP, LOPA, FTA) and experience with combustible dust and machine safety.
