The Daily Dot is the internet's hometown newspaper, featuring original reporting, in-depth analysis, and the best of the web. We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Editorial Assistant to join our team. This entry-level position is ideal for someone passionate about journalism and eager to learn the ropes of the industry.
As an Editorial Assistant, you will support our editorial team in a variety of tasks to ensure smooth daily operations. Key responsibilities include onboarding new freelancers, monitoring and forwarding key emails, and maintaining various editorial tracking boards. You will assist with scorecard reporting, perform data audits and analysis, and occasionally fill in for social media postings.
Additionally, you will update SEO tags, track budgets, and help coordinate both team and editorial events. Your role will involve managing the editorial events calendar, sending weekly traffic reports, and maintaining the editorial story budget. You will also coordinate awards applications, organize prizes for our weekly Dottie Awards, and take detailed notes during meetings.
This position is fully remote and available to start immediately.
Qualifications:
- Strong interest in journalism and digital media.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
- Proficient in WordPress, Worksuite, Slack, and other content management systems.
- Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Basic understanding of SEO practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, etc.).
