The University of Southern California (USC) Department of Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking a eDiscovery Analyst with an exceptional commitment to service excellence to join our team. As the eDiscovery Analyst you will be an integral member of the Security Operations team of the Office of the CISO while reporting to the leader of eDiscovery. This is a full-time exempt position, eligible all of USC’s fantastic Benefits + Perks. This opportunity is primarily onsite, with some hybrid flexibility aligned with business needs. Due to federal requirements, this role is not eligible for sponsorship.

The eDiscovery Analyst works in a hands-on capacity to search, preserve and collect electronically stored data in varied university repositories. Additionally, the eDiscovery Analyst serves as a technical resource for the systems used to gather, identify and maintain custodial data used in litigation and compliance matters.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Great candidates for the position of eDiscovery Analyst will meet the following qualifications:

  • A minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience in electronic discovery (eDiscovery).
  • A bachelor’s degree in relevant field. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of eDiscovery data management systems and expertise working with e-discovery tools (e.g., Relativity, EnCase, Axiom, NUIX).
  • Experience working and communicating with and taking direction from legal staff.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a high level of discretion for dealing with sensitive, confidential information.
  • Experience with forensic collections.
  • Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to teach/train others.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Exceptional candidates for the position of eDiscovery Analyst will also bring the following qualifications or more:

  • 4 or more years’ experience in data processing and analytics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field.
  • Certified E-Discovery Specialist, Relativity Certified Administrator, or other relevant certifications.
  • Working knowledge of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) and regular expressions (regex) for use in building custom queries.
  • Experience with scripting (e.g., SQL, PERL, Python).

SCOPE OF THE ROLE

The eDiscovery Analyst will:

  • Supports e-discovery activities around data collection, extraction and preservation management, directly assisting the Office of General Counsel (OGC) as required for data capture requests. Works on activities of varied complexities, consulting with stakeholders and senior legal staff to develop data collection and dissemination requirements.
  • Issues, tracks, releases and manages litigation holds for data retention as directed by OGC. Searches for and identifies, processes, collects, correlates and produces data utilizing e-discovery software tools. Authors and coordinates status reports and documentation supporting the e-discovery program.
  • Works with OGC on proper data handling and preservation policies, procedures and operational requirements while aligning with regulatory and compliance needs. Liaises with relevant internal/external stakeholders (e.g., Office of the Chief Information Security Officer) as required. Promotes an environment that fosters inclusive relationships and creates unbiased opportunities for contributions through ideas, words, and actions that uphold principles of the USC Code of Ethics.
  • Acts as custodian for all e-discovery data, ensuring it’s preserved in accordance with all legal requirements. Maintains e-discovery tool data map locations to ensure all in-scope systems are covered, discoverable and accessible. Manages, maintains, audits and tracks access to all e-discovery tools (e.g., provisioning users, data retrieval).
  • Stays current with any changes in legal, regulatory, and technology environments which may affect operations. Ensures senior management and staff are informed of any changes and updates in a timely manner. Establishes and maintains appropriate network of professional contacts and memberships in professional organizations. Attends meetings, seminars and conferences, and maintains required/desirable certifications, if applicable.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

The annual base salary range for this position is $90,756 to $110,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
