About the Department
The Strategy & Rare Disease (STARS) organization drives the long-term strategic direction of Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI)/North America Operations (NAO) and leads all US commercial efforts for Novo Nordisk's Rare Disease portfolio. The mandate of STARS is to facilitate the development and to coordinate the execution of the long-term strategy, defining a sustainable business model in US beyond a 5-year time horizon. This department serves as the insiders of the US market when informing and help shaping upstream decisions around future investments and assets. The Rare Disease portfolio includes products in the hemophilia and growth disorders therapeutic areas, new products in the pipeline, and products acquired through business development efforts in existing and new areas. The STARS team collaborates and partners with groups across NAO, Research & Early Development, Development, innovation hubs across NN, other affiliates, and global. We're looking for individuals who are enterprise thinkers, inclusive leaders, and strong collaborators, as we embark on shaping our future.
The Position
The Ecosystem & Enterprise Influence Lead is responsible for driving strategic initiatives to address the complex challenges within the rare disease landscape and ensure launch readiness for those rare diseases. This role involves tackling barriers such as limited reimbursement, community distrust, and disparities in healthcare service. Collaborating with internal teams, the Lead will assess the current landscape, develop strategic plans, and drive impactful change to make a tangible difference in the treatment of rare diseases.
Relationships
Reports to the NNI Rare Disease BU Executive and works with stakeholders to build alignment across Commercial, Market Access, Public Affairs, and CMR. This role will have direct supervisory responsibility. Key contributor to the Rare Disease Leadership team.
Essential Functions

  • Address Rare Disease Ecosystem Barriers
    • Assess and analyze the landscape for our focus rare diseases and evaluate the treatment barriers faced by respective patient populations
    • Develop comprehensive and innovative strategies to overcome ecosystem obstacles, foster launch readiness, and ensuring successful commercialization
    • Collaborate with patient advocacy groups and the medical community to establish referral pathways, expertise, and genetic counseling
    • Proactively plan and shape the market before a potential product launch to prepare the disease state for successful commercialization
    • Prioritize initiatives that have a systemic impact on improving diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life for individuals affected by rare diseases (e.g., policy changes, raising awareness, etc.)
    • Help address the social determinants of health for patient populations of rare diseases
    • Craft targeted messaging within the medical community to aid providers in identifying and treating rare diseases
    • Stay abreast of industry developments, market trends, and competitive dynamics to inform strategic decision-making
    • Continuously assess and optimize market development strategies and tactics based on feedback and results.
  • Build Cross Functional Alignment
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders across different functions (e.g., Market Access, Public Affairs, and CMR) to set the direction to overcome barriers hindering treatments and therapies for rare diseases
    • Build a set of future-focused objectives with key stakeholders, such as advancing research and improving patient outcomes
    • Foster a culture of strategic alignment and collaboration, emphasizing the importance of shared vision and coordinated efforts in achieving meaningful outcomes for the rare disease community
  • Ensure Ecosystem Readiness
    • Develop strategies to prepare the market for launch, mitigate identified risks, and successfully enable the execution of commercial plans
    • Engage with community organizations and healthcare entities to cultivate support and understanding for new launches, fostering a conducive environment for acceptance and adoption of innovative solutions
    • Establish and implement metrics to measure the readiness of the ecosystem for launch, tracking key indicators to gauge acceptance, accessibility, and engagement with new treatments and initiatives.


Physical Requirements
30-40% overnight travel required.
Development Of People
Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process.
Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.
Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent required, MBA preferred
  • Minimum twelve (12) years ' progressive sales and brand management/marketing experience within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Outstanding planning and organizational skills with exceptionally high attention to quality of detail and proven track record of results
  • Prior management/supervisory experience required with a proven track record of development and coaching. Solid understanding of the pharmaceutical marketplace including medical, regulatory and clinical processes, preferably within diabetes
  • Proven track record in new product planning or marketing
