Key Responsibilities:

Design, build, and maintain highly scalable and secure cloud-based backend services and APIs to enable data-driven decision-making in the Discovery Informatics domain.

Partner with Discovery scientists and informatics experts to understand scientific data workflows, research data management needs, and analytics pipelines to deliver meaningful cloud-native solutions.

Develop and deploy containerized applications using Kubernetes, enabling scalable data processing pipelines and scientific computing environments.
-
Deliver solutions leveraging AWS cloud services, focusing on data acquisition, integration, and analysis across high-throughput Discovery research platforms.
-
Implement and optimize CI/CD pipelines for continuous deployment of scientific data services, integrating automated testing and deployment strategies.
-
Apply infrastructure-as-code (IaC) principles using tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation to automate provisioning of informatics platforms and data environments.
-
Ensure secure data handling and compliance with data governance policies, including identity and access management, data encryption, and audit logging.

Develop and maintain robust monitoring solutions to ensure system availability, performance, and data integrity for critical Discovery research activities.

Drive automation and continuous improvement in cloud infrastructure, reducing operational overhead and accelerating time to insight for scientific teams.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, bioinformaticians, and application specialists, to integrate informatics solutions seamlessly into research workflows.

Stay informed about advancements in cloud technologies, informatics platforms, and best practices in scientific data management.

Contribute to documentation, knowledge sharing, and technical mentoring within the Discovery Informatics and Engineering teams.
Skills and Experience:

Must-have:
-
Strong hands-on experience with AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, CloudWatch, IAM, etc.), especially in data management and scientific applications.

Strong experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration, with a focus on scaling scientific data services.
-
Proficient in backend development using Python, Node.js, or Java, with a solid understanding of RESTful API design and implementation.
-
Experience building scientific data pipelines and integrating research data repositories.
-
Proficiency in CI/CD tools and automation frameworks (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CodePipeline).
-
Hands-on experience with Terraform or CloudFormation for automating cloud infrastructure.

Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Prometheus, ELK stack).

Experience working in regulated environments such as pharmaceuticals, with an understanding of data integrity and compliance.

Exposure to scientific informatics platforms (e.g., electronic lab notebooks (ELN), LIMS, or bioinformatics tools).

Knowledge of container security best practices and vulnerability scanning tools.

Experience with AWS analytics services (e.g., Redshift, Athena, Glue) for scientific data analysis.

Familiarity with serverless computing in AWS (Lambda, Step Functions).
