Role
Trail of Bits seeks a Director of Technical Marketing to lead our marketing initiatives and oversee our technical marketing team. This role will drive our marketing strategy, brand presence, and positioning in the cybersecurity services industry. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience marketing similar software assurance services such as application security, cryptography, blockchain, and AI/ML. They will be responsible for building programs reinforcing Trail of Bits' position as an industry leader.
The Director of Technical Marketing will be pivotal in shaping Trail of Bits' market presence and growth trajectory. Working closely with our CEO and leadership team, this leader will develop and execute marketing strategies that maintain our high technical standards while expanding our market reach. The role offers an exciting opportunity to build a high-performing marketing function with direct input and collaboration from our technical leadership to ensure our marketing content reflects our deep expertise and industry-leading capabilities.

What You'll Achieve

  • Develop and execute Trail of Bits' comprehensive marketing strategy, overseeing all initiatives, including content, events, partnerships, and thought leadership.
  • Create and manage strategic marketing partnerships with industry players, media outlets, and industry influencers.
  • Direct the creation and execution of integrated marketing campaigns showcasing Trail of Bits' expertise, including the development of service-specific one-pagers, technical deep-dives, capability briefs, ROI documentation, and service comparison sheets.
  • Establish marketing KPIs and reporting frameworks to measure campaign effectiveness, content management, lead generation, and ROI across all marketing initiatives.
  • Develop and execute quarterly marketing plans that align with business objectives, including content calendars, event strategies, and partnership initiatives that showcase Trail of Bits' technical expertise and thought leadership.
  • Lead a small marketing team by setting clear objectives, managing workload prioritization, and ensuring alignment with company goals.


What You'll Bring

  • 6+ years of experience, specifically in marketing cybersecurity consulting services.
  • Proven track record developing and executing successful marketing strategies for professional services organizations.
  • Deep expertise in the cybersecurity services landscape, including a demonstrated understanding of service delivery models, market trends, competitive dynamics, and buyer behaviors in security consulting.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical security concepts into compelling narratives that resonate with C-level executives, technical leaders, and industry practitioners.
  • Extensive experience building and managing strategic partnerships with industry leaders, media outlets, and technology partners, resulting in measurable impact.


The base salary for this full-time position ranges from $190,000 to $240,000, excluding benefits and potential bonuses. Various factors influence our salary ranges, including the specific role, level of seniority, geographic location, and the nature of the employment contract. An individual's specific work location, unique skills, experience, and relevant educational background will determine the final offer within this range. The presented salary range encompasses the starting salaries for all U.S. locations.
