We are seeking an exceptional Director of Software Engineering to lead our development and integration efforts within the P&C Middle and Large Business. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on technical leader who can drive innovation in enterprise integration solutions while leveraging AI/LLM technologies to accelerate our software development lifecycle and create intelligent business products. This leader will actively participate in technical design and implementation while building and managing a dedicated team focused on connecting our systems seamlessly while implementing advanced AI capabilities such as agentic systems, RAG, knowledge graphs, and developer productivity tools like copilots/Amazon Q/Cursor for Chat Oriented programming(CHOP) to increase the velocity of output.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

· Lead and contribute to enterprise integration solutions

· Implement AI technologies (agentic systems, RAG, knowledge graphs)

· Build/mentor high-performing engineering teams

· Drive AI-augmented development practices

· Manage complex integration projects

· Define technical strategies aligned with business goals

Requirements:

· 10+ years software engineering experience (3+ years leadership)

· Strong coding abilities and hands-on GenAI implementation experience

· Deep knowledge of integration patterns and workflow systems

· Experience with cloud platforms (AWS) and AI/ML services

· Proven team leadership and communication skills

Preferred:

· P&C insurance industry experience

· AI solution deployment experience

· Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$166,560 - $249,840
