Role Value Proposition:
Seeking a Director of Software engineering who is passionate delivering the right solutions in support of driving great products supporting millions of employees in the United States. Someone who'll take ownership in delivery of our Disability and Absence product features while driving technical maturity, and instituting best practices in product engineering. Individual will be a leader who brings passion, joy, and a positive energy to solve complex business and technical problems in a fast-paced delivery environment. You should have a broad set of skills and enjoy going deep where needed - be it diagnosing a legacy application having heap and GC issues or figuring out the best way to build a data pipeline or coming up with a new AI solution for a business problem. You will be managing delivery across an Agile Release Train consisting of teams of full-stack engineers, testers, devops and SRE engineers in support of an entire solution train. You'll work with within a large ecosystem with multiple platforms supporting our products - everything from legacy JAVA and mainframe apps to cutting edge GenAI based cloud apps and microservices across AWS and Azure with multiple data and integration technologies. You will be working in an Agile SAFe environment, working closely with Product management, and other ART IT leaders to deliver features, support production, support new customer onboarding, testing and drive the roadmap for maturing our organization's engineering skills and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technology leader responsible for application feature delivery for our Digital portals, AI experiments and devOps teams.
- Application and budget ownership - Application security & currency, team resource staffing
- Collaborate with Product management on roadmaps and negotiate delivery timelines.
- Collaborate with Architecture and Platform teams to implement solutions
- Communicate plans, and progress to a variety of stakeholders across the organization
- Utilize Agile software development metrics, maintenance metrics and KPIs to help optimize product delivery
- People/Resource/vendor Management (hiring, development, engaging talent, utilization)
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
- 7+ plus years in software engineering.
- 5+ years in managing a team of technologists.
- Experience in developing and operating n-tier, cloud, on-prem, or hybrid systems of engagement and systems of record.
- Experience in creating technical roadmaps with multiple stakeholders (Product Mgmt, architecture, Ops)
- Knowledge of secure coding, DevOps, Testing, and SRE practices.
- Knowledge of JAVA, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, YAML, and other languages.
- Proficiency with various database technologies and solutions, including both SQL and NoSQL
- Proficiency with integration technologies and patterns (MQ, Kafka, API, ETL)
- Passion for technology, deliberately bringing technology into your own life
- Experience in coaching teams to break down business problems into models, features, user stories and associated technical system design.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in managing effective teams through development opportunities, recognition, and feedback for both onshore and offshore teams.
- Cross-functional leadership: organize, motivate, and lead those outside of the team
Preferred:
- Master's degree in computer science or related field
- Understanding and proficiency in monitoring tools
- Experience with applying AI for Software Development
- Container-based development leveraging Docker and/or Kubernetes
- Microsoft Azure Services: Functions, Kubernetes, CosmosDB, Storage, App Service

The salary range for applicants for this position is $140,000 - $180,000.
