Position Description: Caliola seeks a Director of Business Development (BD) to capture and contribute to DoD-funded research and development (R&D) programs and product development. We are experts in MILSATCOM, waveform design, HF communications, alternate PNT, and communications and mission planning. Join a successful capture team led by our Chief Scientist, Dr. Tom Halford. Since 2020, Caliola has won over $30M of SBIR Phase I, II, and III contracts and initiated exciting R&D programs with DARPA and the Office of Naval Research. In 2023, we were an OUSD(R&E) APFIT awardee.
The primary responsibility of the Director of BD is capture. This entails relationship building at conferences, meetings, and stakeholder events; active opportunity shaping; and white paper and proposal writing. The Director of BD also works with the Chief Scientist to align Caliola's technology portfolio with evolving mission requirements. Finally, the Director of BD participates in all internal and external program reviews to ensure that program execution is aligned with customer needs.
We seek a candidate who is based in the Colorado Front Range (preferred), the National Capital Region, or San Diego.
Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage with DoD organizations to identify and shape funding opportunities.
  • Lead the development of high-quality white papers and proposals for SBIRs and BAAs.
  • Work with the Chief Scientist to identify technical development priorities and roadmaps.
  • Attend conferences, meetings, and stakeholder events to build relationships and promote Caliola.
  • Work with Program Managers & Technical Leads to ensure that program execution is aligned with customer needs.
  • Frequent travel is required to Colorado Springs and customer sites for meetings, events, and demonstrations.


Qualifications / Experience Requirements:

  • MS in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • World class written, oral, and visual technical communications skills.
  • Strong background in wireless communications theory and implementation.
  • Demonstrated success securing funding from DoD for R&D programs.
  • This position requires an active security clearance at the SECRET level or higher.
