PURPOSE
Drive strategic growth by engaging with customers and other mortgage finance market stakeholders to address single-family residential mortgage credit enhancement market needs and lead internal efforts to bring solutions to market.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Management/Leadership
- Manages and develops a team of co-workers with a diversity of skills and experience levels. Provides work direction and monitors overall productivity and work quality. Ensures staff is knowledgeable and cross-trained, encourages self-development, and promotes team participation.
- Responsible for the selection, performance evaluation, and salary administration of co-workers.
- Manages, leads, and supports others through the process of change both within the team and throughout the organization to achieve results related to MGIC’s corporate strategy.
- Manages the operational and fiscal activities of the department, including staffing levels, budgets, operational controls and processes, and financial goals.
- Analyzes business processes and issues. Manages departmental policies, procedures, and standards to enhance efficiency and work quality.
- Develops solutions to problems with consideration for department and company goals and direction.
- Develops and manages relationships between departments both inside and outside business unit.
Responsibilities specific to this role:
- In coordination with Sales, engages with customers to identify and understand credit enhancement wants and needs.
- Leverages expertise in regulatory capital and other regulatory requirements pertaining to mortgage finance industry participants to inform product development, market positioning, business strategy, and policy objectives.
- Advocates for new products/features to meet customers’ needs, working closely with Pricing, Credit Policy, Finance and Legal to develop and advance business cases as warranted.
- In coordination with Underwriting and Customer Experience, ensures our business operations platforms facilitate MI premium plan and alternative credit enhancement product configurability.
- Manages customers’ requests relating to structured transactions (seasoned bulk, pool, modified pool, etc.) as the single point of contact (SPOC) for Sales and Home Office.
- Performs operational assessment (capabilities, costing, regulatory, structural) of new products/features involving Legal, Risk, Claims, Underwriting, Customer Experience, BI, Finance, and other impacted domains.
- Oversees coordination of onboarding of new products/features approved by Executive Management.
- Develops and leads the go-to-market, training, and communications strategies relating to new products/features.
- Routinely evaluates product lines to assess need for enhancement or, in some cases, termination.
- Manages the Company’s platform for addressing customer product requests not readily met through standard operating procedures and systems (i.e., the Customer Solutions Desk). Advocates for expansion of capabilities, as warranted, to reduce ad-hoc work while balancing customer needs.
- Maintains high-level strategic analysis of threats and opportunities relating to MI and provides insights and analysis of potential business, regulatory and political responses.
- Helps lead business interactions with the government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs) – Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banks – coordinating efforts across multiple business domains and Executive Management.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE
Required Knowledge:
- Strong ability to distill complex business and regulatory concepts and recommend actions
- Advanced understanding of the mortgage finance industry and its private- and public-sector participants
- Understanding of regulatory capital concepts
- Experience in mortgage credit enhancement
- Strong verbal communications skills
- Strong written communications skills
- Strong financial and analytical capabilities
