Job Description

We are seeking a Director of Procurement and Sourcing to join our hydroelectric power manufacturing team. The Director of Procurement and Sourcing is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive supply chain strategy to support the hydropower industry's Engineer-to-Order (ETO) business model. This role requires a deep understanding of procurement, supplier management, logistics, and global sourcing to ensure efficient and cost-effective delivery of custom-engineered solutions. The Director of Supply Chain will lead the team through transformation efforts and establish KPIs for the department. Additionally, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including quality, engineering, operation, and project management teams to optimize material availability, minimize risks, and drive operational excellence and long-term growth initiatives.

Essential Functions Performed by the Position

  • Oversee procurement activities, ensuring strategic supplier partnerships and competitive sourcing.
  • Establish and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure supply chain efficiency, supplier performance, and cost savings.
  • Lead negotiations with vendors and contract manufacturers to secure favorable terms, high-quality, and optimized lead times.
  • Cultivate and strengthen supplier relationships to enhance resilience and ensure on-time, cost-effective delivery.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of supply chain operations and project requirements.
  • Monitor global supply chain trends, including geopolitical factors, raw material availability, and risks, implementing mitigation strategies to address potential disruptions.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives and ensure regulations in supply chain processes.
  • Lead and mentor a team of supply chain professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and innovation.
  • Drive productivity through the procurement process and sourcing. Deliver on the cost savings targets.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive experience in sourcing from low-cost countries, specifically for casting and machining components in the hydropower sector.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Solid knowledge of fabrication and machining processes, including the ability to read technical drawings.
  • Proficient understanding of manufacturing processes, blueprint reading, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Team.
  • Skilled in using ERP systems to support purchasing and procurement activities.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive supply chain leadership experience, preferably in an ETO or project-based manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in hydropower, renewable energy, or heavy equipment industries is highly desirable.
  • Strong expertise in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, contract management, and logistics.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and supply chain analytics.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, decision-making, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, project-driven environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of international trade compliance, tariffs, and logistics regulations.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with an ability to influence at all levels of the organization.

Licenses or Certifications Required

  • APICS or CSCP certification.
  • Experience with digital supply chain transformation initiatives.

Environment and Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment; some interaction in a heavy steel fabrication environment to coordinate with manufacturing team members

Travel Requirements (percent)

  • 30%
