Do you ever wonder what happens inside the cloud?

DigitalOcean (NYSE: DOCN) simplifies cloud computing so builders can spend more time creating software that changes the world. With our mission-critical infrastructure and fully managed offerings, DigitalOcean enables startups and small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to rapidly deploy and scale modern applications. As a remote-first organization, our employees, like our customers, are based around the world.

At Cloudways—our managed web hosting division, we’re revolutionizing the way businesses scale and grow, by offering powerful, easy-to-use cloud hosting for web applications. With customers at the heart of everything we do—and a commitment to boldness, simplicity, and speed—we’re driving innovation across the cloud ecosystem. Now, we’re looking for a Director of Growth Partnerships to join the Marketing team and help shape our go-to-market (GTM) strategies.

You will own the vision and set the growth strategy for the Marketing business, aligning our operating plan with core organizational goals focused on boosting Cloudways brand exposure and user adoption. This is a senior-level role, requiring you to bring expertise across a broad spectrum of business development, marketing, and relationship management capabilities. Using your sales background in SaaS technology and/or eCommerce sectors, you will identify underutilized routes to market and strategize how we use these to scale the business in a sustainable, one-to-many structure.
As the leader of our growth function, you will manage the team responsible for customer acquisition, scaling growth primarily through affiliate marketing partners, paid media sponsorships, and reseller partnership channels, reporting to the VP of Marketing. You will work with the team to evaluate partnership opportunities, helping negotiate commercial deals with affiliates and media partners, while driving qualified traffic back to our owned properties. You will demonstrate the impact of these partnerships by growing online sales, moving prospects through the sign-up to conversion funnel, while tightly monitoring KPI outcomes.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Create the vision for the Cloudways growth function, using data-driven insights to make business critical decisions around new user acquisition and adoption.
  • Take ownership of growth targets. Manage the team by setting measurable goals and work collectively to create the underpinning strategies necessary for delivering OKRs.
  • Research and identify strategic opportunities by evaluating the needs of the business and monitoring trends in the competitive context to find the platforms, media sites, and partners we need to engage. Be a primary point of contact for potential new partnerships, with responsibility for building long-term commercial relationships.
  • Improve the reach of the brand by increasing the number of affiliate partners we work with, securing ongoing commitments from active partners and devising creative ways to bring the brand to market through these partners.
  • Optimize budget spend by closely tracking marketing ROI, scaling spend across high-performance channels and making trade-offs as you test and learn from new channels.
  • Directly own reporting across the different investment channels, ensuring high-quality analysis and effective communication of results to leadership in a clear and transparent way.
  • Uncover opportunities for automation and streamlining existing processes to resolve points of friction. Develop a thorough understanding of all growth functions to be a credible spokesperson for the team and help drive excellent working relationships.

What You’ll Add to DigitalOcean:

  • 10+ years of experience in a growth related role, ideally in SaaS or eCommerce companies.
  • In-depth understanding of growth marketing in the context of how to scale a fast-moving online business.
  • Solid commercial acumen and financial management, with the ability to use data when setting quotas and sales targets. A strong business development track record.
  • Experience with at least one of the following affiliate network platforms is essential - Share-a-Sale, Commission Junction, AWIN, Partnerize, Impact, Rakuten or similar.
  • A high EQ leader who enjoys collaborating cross-functionally to accomplish shared goals and who is invested in coaching team members to learn and grow.
  • Effectively communicate nuanced ideas with clarity, setting clear expectations for what needs to be achieved and why. You will engage thoughtfully with other perspectives and compromise through dialogue when it’s needed.
  • A ‘player-coach’ mentality.

What We’ll Expect from You:

  • An ability to identify and capitalize on growth opportunities, continuously testing and refining marketing strategies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a focus on commercial outputs and achieving marketing goals. Able to deliver against expectations on-time and within budget.
  • A commitment to teamwork and collaboration across multiple departments.
  • A data-driven approach to decision-making and a passion for extracting insights from complex data sets.
  • An eagerness to mentor and guide team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
