Position Overview:
The Director of Communications Strategy and Planning is responsible for developing, managing, and executing a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with the Company’s goals. This leader ensures consistent messaging across all channels, oversees planning processes, and drives initiatives to enhance the organization’s reputation and visibility.

Essential Functions:
Strategic Planning and Leadership
- Develop and implement a robust, integrated communications strategy that supports organizational priorities.
- Lead the development of annual and long-term communications plans, including goal setting, key performance indicators (KPIs), and budgets.
- Provide leadership and direction to cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment of communications efforts across departments.
- Plan, develop, execute and evaluate earned media by deploying creative external storytelling to generate earned media across all platforms.
Messaging and Content Development
- Oversee the creation of consistent and compelling messaging that resonates with target audiences.
- Guide the development of key messages, talking points, and content for speeches, reports, and media engagements.
- Ensure all communications materials align with the organization’s brand voice and values.
Media and Stakeholder Relations
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and other external stakeholders.
- Support media strategies, including press releases, interviews, and media events.
- Lead strategy for Brunswick events externally (eg. CES)
- Manage Corporate Alliance Partnerships and Relationships
Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Serve as the strategic communications advisor to Chief Communications Officer.
- Foster collaboration with internal departments to align messaging and strategies.
- Cultivate a culture of creativity, accountability, and continuous improvement within the communications team.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including media, corporate alliance partnerships, and other key stakeholders.
Measurement and Optimization
- Track and analyze the effectiveness of communications strategies and initiatives using data-driven approaches.
- Generate reports on campaign performance, audience engagement, and other relevant metrics to inform decision-making.
- Continuously refine strategies based on feedback and performance outcomes.
Diversity of thought and experiences is fundamental when imagining the unimaginable. Certain skillsets/experiences are necessary; however, others can be developed along the way.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in communications, including leadership roles. Newsroom or Journalism experience preferred.
- Experience in media relations and issues management, including experience handling reputational crises quickly and professionally.
- Proven experience in strategic planning, brand management, and integrated communications.
Skills and Competencies
- Executive presence to work with the C-suite; strong ability to collaborate with senior leadership, internal and external partners
- Exceptional leadership capabilities and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a highly collaborative team
- Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with communications technologies and content development strategies, with experience leveraging these platforms for public relations purposes
- Strong strategic thinking and planning abilities with proven ability to manage complex situations.
- Proficiency in managing crisis situations

The anticipated pay range for this position is $148,300 - $250,300, annually. The actual base pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. This position is also eligible for an award target as part of Brunswick’s long-term incentive program.
At Brunswick, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the salary range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidate’s qualifications and the business context.
