We are seeking a dynamic and innovative leader to head engineering efforts for our Search initiatives within the Product Data Platform. As the Director of Engineering, you will lead foundational platform capabilities in Search and Information Retrieval—core technologies used by millions of Autodesk customers across diverse industries.

You will collaborate with Product Management, User Experience, and Software Architecture teams across the company to develop future-oriented search capabilities, including semantic, fuzzy, and shape-based searches, as well as AI/ML workloads. This will involve building highly scalable, low-latency services and APIs.

Additionally, you will serve as the Site Leader in Pune for the Autodesk Platform Services division, enhancing Autodesk’s brand within the engineering community and helping to attract top talent.
 

Responsibilities
 

• Define and drive the vision and direction of Autodesk’s Search Platform in collaboration with the leadership team

• Promote technical excellence, innovation, and employee engagement at the site level by developing team members, attracting top talent, and enhancing Autodesk’s brand

• Lead the engineering efforts to build and operate highly scalable, distributed, and data-intensive platform services and components

• Mentor, manage, and grow a high-caliber team of engineering managers and individual contributors

• Spearhead engineering strategy and innovation in Search and Information Retrieval for complex Design and Make data ecosystems

• Collaborate closely with product and platform leaders to define the strategic technical roadmap, communicate the vision in various forums, and execute the plan

• Identify and lead cross-functional opportunities; align engineering priorities with broader business objectives

• Propose new initiatives for organizational growth and advocate for appropriate resourcing and prioritization

• Enhance development standards through industry best practices, improving quality and system efficiency

• Foster a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning

• Guide the team to balance short-term business goals with long-term engineering health

Minimum Qualifications
 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience

• 15+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on building cloud-scale applications and services

• 5+ years of experience leading large, multi-level engineering teams, including managers and senior technical leaders

• Proven success in engineering leadership roles, with a strong track record of delivering complex projects

• Deep expertise in building and managing large-scale, distributed systems that support high-throughput and low-latency performance

• Strong understanding of software development methodologies, agile frameworks, and project management principles

• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making

• Strategic mindset with the ability to align engineering initiatives with broader business objectives

• Proven ability to attract, mentor, and retain high-performing engineering talent

• Solid foundation as a hands-on software engineer, with deep knowledge of distributed systems, security, scalability, and reliability challenges

• Systems thinker with a passion for understanding complex architectures

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize, simplify, and articulate complex technical topics for diverse audiences, including executives

Preferred Qualifications
 

• Experience with Search and Information Retrieval Systems, including search engine architecture and ranking algorithms

• Expertise in building SaaS platforms on major cloud providers such as AWS, GCP, or Azur

• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute technology strategies aligned with complex business domains

• Proficiency in designing APIs using REST, GraphQL, or gRPC

• Experience monitoring and improving the reliability of large-scale systems

• Background in technical product management and experience in building product roadmaps

• Familiarity with building scalable data and machine learning (ML) pipelines

Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location.
