WHY JOIN ALO?

Mindful movement. It’s at the core of why we do what we do at Alo—it’s our calling. Because mindful movement in the studio leads to better living. It changes who yogis are off the mat, making their lives and their communities better. That’s the real meaning of studio-to-street: taking the consciousness from practice on the mat and putting it into practice in life.

OVERVIEW

Alo Yoga and BELLA+CANVAS are seeking a highly experienced California-based employment attorney to support our employment counseling, contract, and policy needs as we expand in the U.S. and internationally. This position is a hybrid remote/in-office role and candidates will be expected to work at the companies’ headquarters in Beverly Hills a minimum of three (3) days a week.

As Director of Employment, you will play a critical role in overseeing all aspects of employment law, policy, and compliance across our operations. You will work closely with HR, Benefits, Payroll, and Retail teams to ensure that our companies remain compliant with local, state, federal, and international labor laws, while also addressing a wide range of legal matters related to our workforce.

The ideal candidate has a minimum of 8 years of experience with employment advice and counseling at law firms and in-house, including previously holding the top employment law counseling position at a company.

RESPONSIBILITIES

US Employment Law:

  • Advise on a broad range of US employment matters, with an emphasis on California employment law, including wage and hour issues, employee classification, harassment, discrimination, and retaliation claims, and leave and accommodations issues.
  • Provide legal guidance on employee relations, terminations, workplace investigations, and dispute resolution.
  • Draft employment-related agreements, notices, and communications.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.

International Employment Law:

  • Advise on employment matters for the companies’ operations across multiple countries, ensuring compliance with local labor laws and regulations, in collaboration with outside counsel.
  • Collaborate with local counsel in international markets to address cross-border employment issues and risks, including recruitment, compensation, benefits, terminations, and labor relations.
  • Support the drafting and implementation of international policies and employment contracts, considering various legal frameworks and cultural contexts.

Policy Development & Training:

  • Draft, review, and update company-wide employment policies to ensure alignment with legal requirements and best practices.
  • Conduct regular audits of employment practices.
  • Conduct training sessions for HR teams, managers, and employees on legal matters related to employment and labor law compliance.

Strategic Counsel:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to HR leadership and management on all employment-related issues and strategies.
  • Assess and mitigate legal risks related to workforce management, company growth, and expansion into new markets.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of experience in big law and/or other in-house roles
  • J.D. from a top tier law school
  • Admission to California bar
  • Strong understanding of US federal and California employment laws, as well as international employment regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Proven experience advising multinational organizations on employment issues, including labor relations, workforce management, and compliance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively counsel HR and management personnel and collaborate across teams.
  • Significant experience specifically advising retail companies is preferred but not required.

The base pay range for this position is $250,000-$315,000, which represents the current range for this exempt position. Please note that actual pay will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. As such, on occasion and when applicable, there is the possibility that the final, agreed-upon base salary may be outside of the upper end of the range. What We Do

That’s why we started Alo —to spread good: to anyone who is experiencing the transformative power of yoga, to the world’s best yogis who wear Alo to practice because it’s the only line that actually elevates their practice, to the celebrities and the fashion-forward who wear Alo because it’s the perfect street brand, comfortable, contemporary and decidedly not just for the mat.
Creating garments that carry over to the street, into a life lived consciously, takes mindful movement one step further: a beautiful life celebrated with beautiful design. Capturing what’s trending in contemporary fashion with both the women’s and men’s collections makes it so Alo can travel beyond the studio. Luxury meets performance in every collection.
Mindful movement carries over to life at Alo, where there’s a solar-powered office, yoga five days a week for employees at our on-site gym, electric-car charging stations, an advanced recycling program that reduces waste to that of a small household, and meetings outside by the fountains in our meditative Zen garden. We have a gong. And we use it. Our stores are designed to be places to commune—people and ideas mingle over organic juice, kombucha and coffee. And the airy yoga studio and roof deck at our Beverly Hills flagship store is where it’s really happening. There’s even a super-sized cosmic mural on one wall—come by for some astral travel (or just to take an Instagram pic).
