Director of Electronics

Lead a cross disciplinary team of electrical, FPGA/ASIC, PCBA, embedded SW and design verification engineers to deliver automotive grade compute and processing platforms for AEye’s lidar sensors. The individual will be highly organized and expected to work with a dynamic, talented team of hardware and software engineers developing state-of-the art Lidar technology and products.  A wide breadth of previous experience and technical acumen will allow the candidate to participate collaboratively in all levels of the electronics design process, from concept and architectural definition through detailed FW/FPGA algorithm implementation. 

Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage the full lifecycle of the electronics platform from initial architecture, design and development, verification, validation and certifications, and ramp to volume production (as applicable).
  • Deliver FPGA/Firmware and embedded SW to align with preplanned code drops and releases to customers and Tier 1 partners.
  • Manage and deliver on the ASIC roadmap, working with vendors as applicable
  • System control development and FPGA implementation
  • Collaborate closely with other engineering teams, operations, product and program management in scheduling, managing and supporting releases in timely fashion
  • Support RFQs, RFIs and customer feature requests as needed.
  • Travel to Tier 1 partners and vendors as required. Less than 10% of the time.

 Essential Skills & Experience Requirements (required):

  •  Bachelors in Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Engineering
  • 5+ years experience directly managing engineering teams.
  • 5+ years hands-on experience in board bring up and FPGA design.
  • Experience with SystemVerilog for both synthesis and verification.
  • Experience with Linux and Linux based systems
  • Experience in Xilinx and Vivado
  • Experience with industry standard EDA tools for PCB and FPGA development.
  • Strong communication, leadership, organization and presentation skills
  • On-site job required (local and more than 3 days in office)

Preferred Skills & Experience (useful):

  • Masters or higher degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced and demanding environment, preferably a start-up.
  • Prior hands-on experience designing PCBs
  • Experience in Siemens Modelsim/Questasim, OrCAD and Allegro.
  • Experience with FPGA SOC architecture and design, AXI-Bus, Memory & Data Flow
  • Direct experience with implementing physical systems control in embedded SW
  • Proficient in DSP and Math IP core resources and implementation in FPGAs for systems control development
  • Proficient with Matlab (Simulink) or similar/equivalent analytical tools for systems control development
  • Experience with writing low-level c code for test and debug purposes
  • Automotive experience with Functional Safety (FuSa)
