Position Overview

The Director of Contracting reports to the Head of Legal and is responsible for overseeing all activities related to the contracting ecosystem at Care Access. Responsibilities include leadership of Care Access’ contracting team; oversight of the company’s contracting strategy, processes, software, and templates; and oversight and negotiation of key agreements, including agreements related to clinical research. Responsibilities also include, but are not limited to: (i) collaborating with the business to ensure the timely response to RFPs, RFIs, and other requests; (ii) completing compliance checks and ensuring proper due diligence on third parties; (iii) thinking creatively to develop and implement improvements to Care Access’ contracting practices and strategy; and (iv) being a pragmatic and collaborative partner to internal stakeholders across the company.

 

What You'll Be Working On

Duties include but are not limited to:

· Serve as Care Access’ head of contracting, with oversight over global contracting strategy and the entire contracts ecosystem at Care Access.

· Lead, motivate, develop, hire, and train team members responsible for all activities supporting commercial & clinical research contracts at Care Access.

· Lead and collaborate with Business Development, Finance, Regulatory, Compliance, and other groups to maintain and enforce proper controls and approvals are in place for all stages of the contracting lifecycle.

· Define and maintain contracting KPIs; report on trends to Head of Legal; identify and implement necessary process changes.

· Continuously develop and deploy effective strategies to strengthen efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance of the contracting process.

· Serve as an escalation point for the Care Access contracting team during negotiations.

· Draft and negotiate strategic or key contracts, including but not limited to customer master service agreements and clinical trial agreements.

· Partner with business, Finance, Legal, and Compliance colleagues to negotiate agreement terms.

· Ensure contracts are timely and properly drafted, reviewed, and routed for approvals and signatures based upon company policies.

· Be a discerning negotiator with a collaborative, problem-solving approach.

· Maintain Care Access’ catalog of contract templates and oversee the contracting team’s administration of the contract management software (Ironclad).

· Monitor inbound requests to ensure all inquiries are responded to in a timely manner and meet or exceed business requirements.

· Foster an environment that is collaborative; encourages honest, open, dialogue; and demonstrates a commitment to serve our people, patients, and customers.

· Participate in the development, implementation & continuous improvement of departmental policies, procedures, workflows, and tools as they relate to contracting and operations.

· Project-manage key contracting workstreams and initiatives.

· Be an active and engaged member of the Care Access Legal team; support Legal team priorities and projects as needed.

Physical and Travel Requirements

· This is a remote position with less than 10% travel requirements. Occasional planned travel may be required as part of the role.

 

What You Bring

Role Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years supervisory experience in the HealthCare, Pharmaceutical, and/or Life Sciences Industry. 

· Juris Doctor or MBA preferred.

· 3+ years of experience working for a company conducting decentralized clinical research, clinical research operations, and/or clinical research recruitment.

· 3+ years of experience negotiating agreements within the clinical research space, including but not limited to Clinical Trial Agreements. 

· 5+ years of experience negotiating or overseeing multinational commercial agreements, partnership agreements, complex software and services agreements with vendors, and other agreements with strategic significance and/or high visibility.

· Experience with technical solutions such as deploying software, managing integrations, and automating processes to achieve efficiency, strengthen collaboration, and foster a mutual sense of accountability across the contracting team.

· Experience deploying and/or overseeing a global contracting strategy involving multinational commercial transactions.

· Experience partnering with Finance to incorporate tax and accounting considerations in commercial contracting.

· Commitment to providing exceptional customer service.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

· Deep knowledge of contract administration, procedures, and practices.

· Proven leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with team members at all levels within the organization to achieve business goals. 

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, language proficiency in English. 

· Knowledge of applicable regulations including Good Clinical Practice, HIPAA, and GDPR.

· Proven ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively manage competing priorities from multiple stakeholders. 

· Proven creative, analytical, and critical thinking skills; able to solve problems and make effective and timely decisions. 

· Strong attention to detail. 

· Strong coordination and project management skills.

· Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).

· Experience administering Contract Lifecycle Management software (preferably Ironclad); experience with Salesforce.
