Position Overview
Avero is currently looking for a DevOps Engineer for our Product Operations team who will be responsible for working collaboratively with the engineering team to deploy and operate our systems. Your primary focus will be to automate and streamline operations and processes, build, and maintain tools for deployment, monitoring, and operations, and troubleshoot and resolveissues in our dev, staging and production environments. Candidates must demonstrate strong technical knowledge with a passion for service. This is a 100% remote role reporting to Avero’sDirector of Engineering and working closely with the Director of IT.
Our Product Operations team maintainsboth our cloud-based and on-premises infrastructure that provides the foundation for allAvero’s products. The team leverages the latest cutting-edge technologies to provide high availability and high performing systems for the engineering team. They followthe Everything-as-Code philosophy to create a stable, robust, and dynamic infrastructure that can adapt quickly to emerging technology trends.

What You'll Do
- Build and maintain Amazon Web Services cloud infrastructure (as code) including, but not limited to,the following:
- Compute – EC2, ECS, Lambda
- Storage – S3, EFS, Glacier, Storage Gateway
- Database – RDS, RedShift
- Networking – VPC, Route 53
- Management – CloudWatch, Auto Scaling
- Analytics – EMR, Elasticsearch
- Security – IAM, Certificate Manager
- Application Integration/Messaging – SES, SNS, SQS
- Support on-premises hardware and software infrastructure including, but not limited to, the following:
- FTP/FTPS/SFTP Servers
- HTTP Servers – Apache, Tomcat
- Oracle Enterprise Database
- Oracle WebLogic
- SAP Business Objects
- Build and maintain custom solutions including, but not limited to, the following:
- Custom HTTP file servers
- Internal APIs
- Data warehouse loading and maintenance scripts
- Custom monitoring and alerting solutions
- Support of migration of on-premises monolithic application infrastructure to cloud-based microservices
- Design and implement monitoring and alerting systems
- Explore, implement, and test new technologies
- Participate in on-call pager rotation
- Champion operational excellence, actively participating in the process of development and continuous improvement
- Provide technical support to your team members, take ownership of your work, and always be learning
- Participate in code reviews, defining and refining your team’s process
What You'll Need
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps and/or Systems Administration
- Strong understanding of the core concepts of DevOps, microservices, systems administration, and monitoring/alerting
- Required experience with the below:
- Languages – Python, Java, Shell Scripting
- Infrastructure Tools – Terraform, Chef
- Container Infrastructure – Docker and Docker Compose, ECS
- Databases – MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server
- Elastic Stack – Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana
- Source Control – Git and Bitbucket
- Linux administration (Ubuntu, Fedora, and/or Amazon Linux)
- You do notneed to be an expert in everything but should have a significant overlap with our existing technology stack. We can help you ramp up where there are gaps.
- Languages – Groovy, Perl
- Build tools – Maven, Ant, Gradle
- Infrastructure Tools – Packer, CloudFormation
- Databases – Oracle, RedShift
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working within remote or geographically distributed teams is preferable and a strong commitment to collaboration in a remote-first environment

For Colorado* based candidates - The range of our base salary cash compensation for this role for candidates living in Colorado is between $1115,000 and $120,000. Final offers are determined using multiple factors including experience and level of expertise. We also offer a full robust benefits package. Because Avero's base compensation is driven by location, we will be happy to discuss a salary range for other locations during the interview process.
