DevOps Engineer
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated DevOps Engineer to join the Research Data and Technology Solutions team at the Boston Fed. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for accelerating the economic research process by rapidly prototyping and building tailored innovative solutions for research projects. Reporting to the Director of IT Services, the DevOps Engineer collaborates with economists, data scientists, analysts, developers and vendors to deliver robust, scalable, secure infrastructure and automation solutions that advances economic research, monetary policy, enhancing productivity and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain software solutions that support economic research, including tools for data analysis, model development, and visualization.
- Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and data scientists to understand the specific needs of economic research projects to design, implement, and optimize software solutions that meet research requirements.
- Develop and manage on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure to support both research and production workflows.
- Development and maintenance of CI/CD tool technologies to improve productivity and accelerate software delivery.
- Automate system administration tasks using infrastructure-as-code (IaC), including monitoring, scaling, and provisioning of infrastructure.
- Support containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes for managing complex applications and environments.
- Integrate version control systems such as Git and ensure efficient collaboration between development and research teams.
- Work closely with the security team to implement and maintain data protection measures, including encryption, access control, and secure communication protocols.
Other Responsibilities:
- Manage the project lifecycle, developing solution specifications, identifying requirements, and ensuring the project is executed on time start to finish.
- Build scalable data processing pipelines and integrate them with data sources to enable real-time analysis and reporting.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues in software systems, analyzing logs, and providing quick and efficient solutions.
- Create and maintain documentation for infrastructure setups, deployment processes, and troubleshooting guides.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Technology, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of DevOps software engineering, software development.
- Proficient with Linux/Unix systems and scripting languages (Bash, Python, etc.).
- Proficient in AWS
- Proficient in Git and GitOps
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, and CloudFormation.
- Strong knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration.
- Expertise in CI/CD tools like GitLab CI
- Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible
- Knowledge of monitoring and logging systems such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack
Additional Qualifications:
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly identify and resolve system performance and reliability issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in working with data science or economic research teams.
- Familiarity with big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, or similar platforms.
- Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
- Experience in machine learning or data analytics infrastructure.
