Context/ ROLE

We are seeking a highly motivated Developer Experience Team Leader to join our Global Technology Architecture department. You will play a pivotal role in enhancing, modernizing and standardizing our developer experience toolset 

The capability vision in this area 

  • To make developers more autonomous via self-service environment provisioning 

  • To offer preconfigured development environments with essential tools and libraries 

  • To streamline code management and collaboration  

  • To automate build and deployment across environments 

  • To provide observability tools (tracing, logging and monitoring) to diagnose issues quickly 

  • To integrate security best practices with tools for code scanning, vulnerability assessment and secrets management 

  • To drive engineering efficiency through engineering metrics including DORA metrics 

You will lead a small team of engineers responsible for making this vision a reality by implementing tools, standardizing patterns for their sustainable adoption and evangelizing that adoption throughout the org.

This leadership role requires strong technical expertise, coupled with exceptional communication and collaboration skills to foster developer adoption and ensure the new toolset aligns with the needs of our developers. The mission is to contribute to safe, secure and rapid delivery of value to our users by enabling a more productive and compelling developer experience. 

Position Scope & Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership 

  • Lead a team of Engineers in designing, implementing, and maintaining modern internal development platform. 
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment, motivating and mentoring team members towards professional development. 
  • Delegate tasks effectively, ensuring project timelines and deliverables are met. 
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide career development opportunities for team members. 

 

Modernization and Standardization 

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for modernizing and standardizing the developer experience toolchain and practices across the organization. 
  • Work with the organization to define the right tools to standardize on 
  • Define best practices and efficient adoption patterns for the chosen tools, ensuring widespread developer uptake. 
  • Design and develop an internal developer platform (IDP) that provides developers with self-service access to tools, resources, and infrastructure. 
  • Evangelize, promote and drive implementation of the DevEx toolchain across various development projects, while remaining open and responsive to feedback  

 

Vendor Management 

  • Foster healthy partner relationships with DevEx tool vendors. 
  • Evaluate and select tools that best suit the organization's needs. 
  • Negotiate contracts and manage vendor relationships to ensure ongoing support and integration. 
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest technology trends in DevEx, identifying new tools and solutions that can benefit the developer organization. 

 

Developer Evangelism 

  • Develop a comprehensive developer outreach and communication strategy to promote the DevEx tools and practices. 
  • Collaborate with development teams across the organization to understand their needs and pain points and reflect these back into roadmap thinking. 
  • Deliver training sessions and workshops to educate developers on the benefits and functionalities of the new toolset. 
  • Actively solicit feedback from developers and continuously iterate on the toolset based on their inputs. 
  • Champion developer experience by ensuring DevEx practices are efficient and user-friendly. 

 

Measuring Engineering Efficiency 

  • Implement and track DORA metrics to measure and improve engineering efficiency. 
  • Analyze engineering data to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement in the development lifecycle. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to continuously optimize developer workflows and reduce delivery times. 

 

Additional Responsibilities 

  • Stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices in Developer experience, internal development platforms, platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, CI/CD, observability, and testing automation. 
  • Collaborate with other teams within Technology, including Architecture, Security, Cloud Engineering, and Infrastructure Management. 
  • Document processes and procedures for platform engineering and DevOps practices. 
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize platform performance and developer productivity.

Knowledge and SKILLS

 

As a Developer Experience Team Leader, you will have to demonstrate:

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in Software and/or Platform Engineering, with deep exposure to and passion for DevEx tools 

  • Strong knowledge of the Azure (and ideally also AWS) public cloud, from the perspective of DevEx tooling and software engineering productivity.  

  • Proven track record of leading and motivating high-performing engineering teams. 

  • Demonstrated experience in implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines. 

  • Strong understanding of observability principles and experience with monitoring and logging tools. 

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills. 

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple stakeholders and prioritize tasks. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 

  • Passion for developer experience and a desire to empower development teams. 

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with security testing automation tools and practices. 

  • Experience in designing and developing internal developer platforms. 

  • Experience working in a large, fast-paced fintech environment. 

  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP. 

  • Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
