You will collaborate closely with your colleagues in Design, Product Management, and Engineering to understand the needs, attitudes, challenges, and expectations of our clinical users to ensure that our products deliver the best possible experience.

You will be the solo researcher supporting our team of 3 Product Designers who are enthusiastic about everything research and want more of it in their design practice. We collaborate closely with cross-functional partners including Product Management and Engineering, who also value research. Our clinical users are neurosurgeons and other highly trained specialists working for many of the top hospital systems in the world. You will report directly to the Head of Design and Research.

What you will do:

  • Identify research needs in collaboration with the Head of Design and Research, Product Designers, Product Managers, Marketing, and executives.
  • Design, plan, execute, analyze, and report end-to-end custom primary research using a wide variety of qualitative and quantitative methods including in-depth interviews, field studies, surveys, and usability tests.
  • Quickly grasp and distill highly complex problems into clean, understandable solutions for use in product development and strategic product vision work.
  • Effectively manage and prioritize research plans through ambiguous and fast-changing environments.
  • Align and efficiently execute critical insights and work with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Clearly communicate results and illustrate suggestions in compelling and creative ways to cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Travel occasionally (no more than 20%) to conduct research, meet with customers, and attend internal meetings.
  • Perform any other related activites assigned by reporting manager.

What you bring:

  • Professional hands-on design research experience, ideally in healthcare or complex software at scale in mobile, web, and desktop environments
  • Experience in generative research to drive product strategy and answer the question of what we should build, as well as evaluative research that answers tactical questions of whether we have built the right thing.
  • Expertise in two or more mixed-method research skills, including 1:1 interviews, concept testing, moderated and unmoderated usability studies, focus groups, contextual inquiry, and surveys.
  • Strong analysis skills to create high-quality actionable research results and deliverables. Potential artifacts include insights summaries, usability study reports, service design maps, and personas.
  • Strong communications skills to share conceptual ideas and research results in compelling ways with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Flexibility and prioritization skills to successfully manage an ambiguous and fast-changing environment where you effectively balance short-term tactical work with long-term strategic goals.
  • Proficiency with industry standard design and research tools such as Dovetail and Figma.
  • Experience leveraging product analytics tools like Amplitude to inform research plans and identify potential success metrics for new products and features.

What would differentiate you as a candidate:

  • Experience conducting user research in a healthcare setting, especially if you have done work with medical imaging, across multiple modalities including mobile, web, and desktop.
  • Experience developing AI/ML products and services
