Position Overview:

Maxio is looking for a Design Engineer to join our Product Design team and help bridge the gap between design and development, ensuring our products are functional, cohesive, and user-centered. Whether you're a front-end engineer with a strong design sensibility or a technically adept product designer, you thrive in the "front of the front-end" space.

In this role, you'll collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and cross-functional teams to develop, maintain, and evolve Maxio’s design system. Your work will empower product teams to build with consistency, efficiency, and craft—enabling delightful, high-quality experiences across our platform.

Key Responsibilities:

• System Development and Maintenance:
  • Design reusable components and patterns that align with Maxio’s design principles.
  • Conduct usability testing and prototype components to ensure they meet both user needs and technical requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and evolve our design system code repositories and shared Figma libraries.
  • Create clear, comprehensive documentation to support adoption across diverse teams.
• Collaboration and Enablement:
  • Partner with product designers, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure the design system integrates seamlessly into product development workflows.
  • Facilitate a contribution culture by mentoring teams on how to leverage and contribute to the design system.
  • Act as the bridge between design and engineering, enabling teams to deliver consistent and high-quality user experiences.
  • Continuously research and identify opportunities to improve design and engineering processes through automation, tools, and emerging technologies.
• Leadership and Strategy:
  • Contribute to the long-term vision and roadmap of the design system, aligning it with organizational goals.
  • Champion accessibility and inclusivity across all design system efforts, ensuring compliance with WCAG and other standards.
  • Mentor team members and advocate for best practices in design and engineering.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in product design or front-end engineering, preferably within a SaaS environment.
• Proven experience building and maintaining design systems.
• Expertise in front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, and React) and tools such as Figma and Storybook.

Technical Skills:

• Strong skills in visual design, interaction design, and prototyping demonstrated through a portfolio of work, spanning desktop and mobile surfaces.
• Familiarity with design tokens, API-based design systems, or other advanced system architectures.

Communication & Collaboration:

• Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with a track record of partnering with design, engineering, and product teams.
• Strong organizational skills and a love for documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG).
• Passion for mentoring and educating teams on leveraging design systems to improve workflow efficiency and consistency.
• Experience with automation tools and emerging technologies that improve design and engineering processes.
