What is the opportunity?
As DB2 Database Specialist in Insurance Data Engineering Services team within Insurance Technology, you will lead DB2 LUW projects and initiatives in multiple Agile Labs. We are looking for a passionate DBA with strong database architecture skills and leadership, effective written and verbal communication skills, a strong work ethic and a demonstrated capability to multi-task effectively. This role requires a positive attitude and a willingness to take accountability for results achieved.
What will you do?

Create and maintain DB2 database & transaction processing environments for application testing, pre-production verification and production operation.

Work closely with agile teams and other stakeholders to understand their database requirements and assist in building database solutions that cater to their needs.

Provide DBA technical support to a list of critical Insurance applications that use DB2 LUW.

Ensure DB2 databases are optimally designed so that applications meet their defined SLAs, maximize reuse of existing database structures, and minimize operational costs.

Assist RBC infrastructure teams with DB2 LUW version upgrades, maintenance, and enhancement of database products.

Ensure enterprise database standards are followed and aligned to overall RBC guidelines.
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have:
-
5+ years’ experience as DBA supporting critical applications that use DB2 LUW in standalone and HADR/Cluster environments.

Strong technical knowledge of IBM DB2 database including data modeling, stored procedures, views and optimization.

High level of proven competence with data manipulation languages, data definition languages, physical database design, and application performance analysis & tuning

Good knowledge on Unix shell scripting and database backup tools such as Networker

Good knowledge on mainframe JCL, Jira, Service Now, GITHub, OnDemand and Zeke

Excellent collaboration skills and proven ability to adapt to challenges, coaching and mentoring.

Strong communication, analytical and negotiation skills, including conceptual, requirements interpretation, solution creation and problem-solving abilities.

Quick learner on areas you never worked on.
Nice to have:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent.

Knowledge/experience administering IBM Integrated Analytics System appliance.

Knowledge/experience with Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, MySQL.
-
Knowledge/experience using database backup tools and managing data retention policies.

Insurance and/or Financial Industry experience.
