The Opportunity

This position works out of the Acelis Connected Health, Livermore, CA office  as part of the Abbott Heart Failure business.  Our Heart Failure solutions are helping address some of the World’s greatest healthcare challenges.

The Database Architect is responsible for designing and implementing database solutions that meet the needs of Acelis Connected Health’s commercial platforms.  This role combines elements of database administration, architecture, and engineering, focusing on creating efficient, scalable, and secure database systems.

You will provide in-depth technical expertise of database management systems, including database architecture, installation, and technical support of DBMS software   This is  a crucial role in ensuring that an organization’s data infrastructure is robust, efficient, and aligned with business goals.

What You'll Work On

  • Design and Architecture:  Create comprehensive database designs that align with business requirements and technical specifications.
  • Implementation:  Oversee the deployment of database solutions, ensuring they are integrated effectively with existing systems.
    • Install, test and upgrade database releases and associated products.
    • Lead the diagnosis of database-related issues (e.g., database outages, application performance).
  • Performance Optimization:  Monitor and optimize database performance, implementing best practices for efficiency and speed.
  • Security Management:  Establish and enforce security protocols to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with regulations.
    • Oversight of cybersecurity and threat modeling activities.
  • Collaboration:  Work closely with stakeholders, including developers, system architects, and business analysts, to gather requirements and provide technical guidance.
  • Documentation:  Maintain thorough documentation of database designs, configurations, and processes for future reference and compliance.
    • Lead in the development of database standards and procedures.
  • Research and Development:  Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in database management to recommend improvements and innovations.
  • Capacity Planning:  Anticipate future storage needs and scalability.
  • SQL Server Installation and Configuration:  Experience installing, upgrading, and patching database systems
    • DBA supports databases for applications impacting millions of patient and clinical transactions.
  • Monitoring:  Establish and maintain dashboards and alerting tools to monitor system performance.
    • Conducts production database performance monitoring, establishes baselines and reporting procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (± 16 years) in Computer Science or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 8 Years  minimum DBA experience
  • 4 years minimum architect experience
  • Requires experience in file structure, design, retrieval, and access methods, etc.
  • Requires excellent analytical, communication, consultative and project management skills.
  • Should have broad knowledge of diverse database technologies, tools and alternatives, and the ability to work effectively with client and IT management and staff.
  • Total combined experience:  12+ years.
  • Must be able to work at a computer workstation for extended periods of time.

Required Skills

  • Technical Proficiency:  Strong knowledge of various database management systems (SQL Server, MYSQL, NoSQL databases).  Proficiency in SQL and database languages.
  • Cloud infrastructure: Proven history with Azure Cloud, Managed Instances, Blob Storage, build pipelines and file management.
  • Data Modeling:  Expertise in data modeling techniques and tools to design effective database schemas.
  • Performance Tuning:  Ability to analyze and optimize database performance, including indexing and query optimization.
  • Programming Skills:  Familiarity with programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, Java) for database-related tasks and automation.
  • Communication:  Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Project Management:  Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively, ensuring timely delivery of database solutions.
  • Experience with SQL Server Integration Services
  • Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree (± 18 years) Preferred
  • Experience with  CloneDB and SolarWinds is a plus

The base pay for this position is

$128,000.00 – $256,000.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
