Role Overview
The Database Administrator (DBA) plays a critical role in unlocking the value of our data. This role involves planning, analyzing, designing, implementing, and maintaining databases across multiple platforms to ensure reliable data access and performance.
Key Responsibilities
The DBA is expected to successfully execute each of these core duties:
Database Administration: Perform database-related tasks across various platforms, including:
- Business requirements analysis
- Conceptual, logical, and physical database design
- Data modeling and mapping
- Moderate programming to automate and support database environments
- Performance monitoring, tuning, and database metric analysis
- Capacity planning and configuration management
Security and Reliability: Ensure databases meet Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO), implement and audit security controls, and manage backups.
Issue Resolution: Troubleshoot service outages and optimize performance by adjusting hardware, server configurations, and queries as needed.
Change Management: Deploy database change scripts from internal development and third-party teams.
Monitoring: Configure and maintain database monitoring utilities to reduce false alarms and ensure system reliability.
Qualifications
- 5+ years database administration in Microsoft SQL Server
- 2+ years working with Postgres and pgSQL
- 2+ years of experience on AWS (RDS and related supporting services)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) is a plus
- Experience with T-SQL, MS-SQL, DynamoDB, and Snowflake is preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and enthusiasm for precision
- Ability to learn new skills quickly and work well in a collaborative team environment
