About the role:
Join Takeda as Data Privacy & Digital Ethics Lead, at the director level, where you will ensure ethical behaviors, which plays a fundamental role in risk mitigation. You will also be a key forward-thinking leader in risk identification and mitigation and build an innovative function supporting achievement of Takeda's Vision. Additionally, Ethics & Compliance (E&C) will respond rapidly to changing environment and business needs; it is close to the market and encourages ethical behavior in line with Takeda's values. By working in an agile manner E&C ensuring the balance between stable structures, governance, processes and systems, and dynamic approaches to delivering innovative solutions to appropriately manage our risks. As part of the Global Ethics & Compliance team, you will report to the Head, Technology Ethics and you will collaborate across all E&C teams and partner with Pharmaceutical Sciences R&D, R&D Clinical Operations, Global Bioethics Lead, Human Resources, and US Data Privacy Counsel.
How you will contribute:

  • Lead and support the implementation of the digital ethics and compliance strategy with regards to data, digital and technology.
  • Standing member of Data Privacy, Data Governance, and Digital Ethics / Technology Ethics committees in order to drive strategic risk management and decision-making across R&D on covered topics.
  • Lead ethics by design across business projects with the R&D Digital, Data and Technology team and the global Digital Ethics & Compliance (DEC) team, including the use of the Takeda AI Principles, the Takeda Responsible AI Framework, the Data Privacy Policy & Framework, and the IFPMA guidance on the ethical use of data and technology.
  • Prepare materials for and periodically lead on topics at R&D RECC (Risk, Ethics & Compliance Committee) meetings and support the R&D DD&T Council on matters of E&C, Data Privacy and Digital Ethics / Technology Ethics.
  • Lead the design and implementation of the Digital Ethics & Compliance Program across the R&D organization. Establish and lead the implementation of risk assessment and management, including day-to-day Data Privacy operations and Digital Ethics / Technology Ethics Programs across R&D, Data Privacy Impact Assessments, Records of Processing/Data Inventory, Privacy Incident Management activities, Informed Consent Form standardization and escalation, and implementation of global and R&D specific AI and emerging technology control frameworks.
  • Contribute to global E&C program development projects, as relevant from time to time (Code of Conduct, Values Ambassador Program, Ethical Decision-Making based on PTRB, Policies and Procedures).
  • Based in needs assessment, establish the Learning Curriculum for E&C, Data Privacy and Digital Ethics / Tech Ethics across R&D and design and execute capability building for R&D E&C LT and the PDT BU LT.
  • Work with Pharmaceutical Sciences R&D & R&D Clinical Operations to review and approve relevant digital device strategy as it relates to digital tools and potential data management.
  • Advisor to global R&D on Data Privacy and Digital Ethics / Tech Ethics matters including AI/GenAI, Mobile Application Development, Website Development, Market Research, Patient Recruitment, Patient Support Program Development and Third-Party Management and the ethical use of data and technology.
  • Work closely with the Global Bioethics Lead to bring topics for consideration to the Takeda Ethics Advisory Council (TEAC). TEAC is a council of internal and external advisors formed to assess ethical aspects of initiatives across Takeda. With R&D's focus on emerging technologies, algorithms, digital services, and digital devices, and our focus on innovation across the R&D value-chain, ethical use of data and technology is critical.
  • Lead E&C investigations for R&D DD&T in the US and Europe. As needed, work in close alignment with the Global Investigations Team and the R&D E&C team, with the HR team on matters of local labor law and disciplinary actions, and with Legal on matters of legal interpretation/legal privilege.• Establish a regular exchange between R&D and the global DEC team, the Chief Data Privacy Officer and the US Data Privacy Counsel to ensure global program enhancements are inclusive of the R&D specificities. Co-lead efforts at global level and US level to catalyze continuous improvement efforts and effective and efficient remediation.
  • Act as point of contact for internal and external audits. Oversee mitigation and remedial action from monitoring, audit, and case management. Help resolve issues and drive alignment with R&D senior leaders concerning E&C or R&D driven programs (audit remediation, policy, process).
  • Assess the current state of controls and the DE&C program overall on a regular basis.
  • Lead the external horizon scanning efforts on new laws and regulations affecting the data privacy and tech ethics space for global R&D. Lead the work on preparing the implementation of new legislation across R&D. Align work with the Global Privacy Office and work with the relevant in-country Privacy Offices and Liaisons in support of the overall company Privacy Program.
  • Vendor Due Diligence: Conduct DEC related vendor due diligence assessments for R&D vendors.
  • Represent R&D in internal and external networks, committees and groups to support the business, for benchmarking purposes and to maintain and enhance required subject matter expertise.


Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years' experience of Ethics & Compliance and Data Privacy in a regulated industry.
  • Privacy Certification(s) like IAPP-CIPM, CIPT, CIPP/US, CIPP/E or equivalent.
  • Experience with internationally recognized standards applied to E&C programs, including policies, learning curricula, risk management, investigations and the use of supporting tools.
  • Demonstrated professional expertise on Data Privacy.
  • Clear understanding of data privacy laws and regulations in an international environment.
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience and applied digital/tech ethics - preferred

U.S. Base Salary Range:
$169,400.00 - $266,200.00
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
