Job Summary
Barings has an opening on the Data Operations team for a Data Operations Lead. The Data Operations Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, availability, and reliability of data for both internal and external clients. This role involves monitoring and optimizing data processes, addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and mitigating risks. The associate will also handle batch processing, alert monitoring, and abend resolution, contributing to the continuous improvement of data operations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Client Service: Provide high-quality service to both external and internal clients by addressing inquiries, performing controls, data modeling, resolving problems, and mitigating risks.
- Data Verification: Perform daily verification checks to ensure data accuracy and availability within Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Lead and mentor: Manage a team of data operations specialists, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback. Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
- Issue Resolution: Investigate and troubleshoot data pipeline issues and feed processing exceptions, coordinating with Data Engineering Support, as necessary.
- Operational Efficiency: Maintain and optimize operational workflows, identifying and implementing opportunities for process improvements.
- Complex Issue Handling: Investigate and resolve complex data issues, performing ad-hoc analysis on large datasets under tight deadlines.
- Collaboration: Work closely with data engineers to enhance application logic and functionality in Azure Gen2 Data Lake, Data Factory, Data Bricks, and SQL Database environments.
- Data Knowledge: Maintain an understanding of the firm’s operational data hubs and warehouse schemas.
- Project Participation: Represent the Data Team on cross-functional projects, ensuring data requirements and considerations are addressed.
- Communication: Utilize strong communication and problem-solving skills to resolve support issues promptly.
- On-call Responsibilities: Handle on-call duties as required to support data operations.
- Batch Processing: Monitor batch processes, manage alerts, and resolve abend issues efficiently.
Qualifications
- Strong sense of urgency
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems or equivalent experience required.
- 3+ years served as Data Engineer or Data Operations role.
- 3+ years of experience working with SQL.
- 2+ years of experience with Microsoft Azure Data Lake, Data Factory, and SQL Database products or equivalent products from other cloud services providers
- Expert knowledge and experience developing efficient ETL data pipelines having multiple sources.
- Experienced in the use of standard ETL tools and techniques (e.g., SSIS or any equivalent ETL tools)
- Familiar with modern data lake, data warehousing, and ETL/ELT concepts
- Knowledgeable about data modeling, data access, and data storage techniques.
- Ability to work in an Agile Scrum environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Preferred experience with supplementary scripting languages such as Python
- Preferred experience with PowerBI
- Preferred experience with scheduling tools
