About the Role & Team
The Disney Decision Science + Integration (DDSI) organization is responsible for supporting clients across The Walt Disney Company including the Disney Experiences (DX) segment which include Parks & Resorts both domestic and international, Consumer Products and Disney Signature Experiences as well as the Disney Entertainment segment including Studios Content (Disney Theatrical Group), General Entertainment Content, and ESPN and Sports Content.
DDSI leverages technology, data analytics, optimization, statistical and econometric modeling to explore opportunities, shape business decisions and drive business value.
The Data Engineering team is responsible for partnering with Decision Science Products, Decision Science, Client and Technology team members on various development and sustainment projects, ad-hoc requests, prototyping and research initiatives by providing data pipeline and database engineering services.
The DDSI Data Engineering (DE) team is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to work on theme-park related internal DE initiatives. In this position, the candidate will have tasks to develop, implement, enhance and support our solutions. The work will involve various data engineering activities throughout the project SDLC.
This team works in office located in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
What You Will Do
Work assignments may cover activities such as participation in data requirements gathering, source-to-target mapping, developing and maintaining ELT data pipelines, data quality monitoring, producing input datasets for science models and visualizations and Batch/Orchestration job scheduling. In addition to technical abilities, the role is responsible for developing an understanding the business domain and processes, then applying that knowledge to the assigned deliverables. This role communicates data engineering progress to the project leadership team, and actively participates in meetings and discussions.
Technologies generally leveraged to fulfill the work include, but not limited to PostgreSQL, Snowflake, SQL, Python, Docker, and GitLab.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 5+ years of overall technical experience
- Experience with ELT/ETL data pipeline development and maintenance
- High Proficiency in SQL coding
- Proven experience and expertise using Python, Docker, Snowflake and/or Postgres
- Ability to showcase an understanding of one or more business domains
- Prior experience gathering and refining data requirements and producing data design solutions
- Experience leveraging job scheduling software like Apache Airflow
- Experience with developing in a multi environment (Dev, QA, Prod, etc.) and DevOps procedures for code deployment/promotion
- Strong understanding of database design and proficiency using various database platforms, such as PostgreSQL or Snowflake
- Experience managing and deploying code using a source control product such as GitLab/GitHub
- Able to optimally formulate solutions and communicate sophisticated technical concepts to non-technical team members
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with large datasets and big data technologies, preferably cloud-based, such as Snowflake or similar
- Knowledgeable on cloud architecture and product offerings, preferably AWS
- Experience using containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes
- Experience and/or familiarity with Disney Theme Parks and Resorts data, specifically related to resort reservations, dining reservations, or theme park attendance
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Advanced Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
- Master's degree preferred in Advanced Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or comparable field of study
