The Position
We are seeking a Data Engineer to join our pharmaceutical company’s data team. This role is essential in building, optimizing, and maintaining scalable data infrastructure to support data science, analytics, and business intelligence initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in cloud platforms (AWS), Python programming, and modern data engineering tools such as Snowflake and dbt. Additionally, the candidate should have experience in database performance analysis, troubleshooting, and IT system implementation to enhance data quality and flow within the organization.
This position offers a unique opportunity to work with large-scale pharmaceutical and healthcare datasets, ensuring secure, compliant, and efficient data operations. At higher job levels, the candidate may contribute to the development and architecture of enterprise-wide IT solutions.
As a qualified Data Engineer, your key accountabilities;-
Data Engineering & Infrastructure
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes for structured and unstructured data.
• Implement data models in Snowflake for efficient data storage, retrieval, and analytics.
• Utilize dbt for data transformation, modeling, and governance.
• Develop and maintain AWS-based data infrastructure (e.g., S3, Lambda, Glue, Redshift).
• Optimize database performance, troubleshoot issues, and enhance data flow patterns.
• Plan, design, and implement systems and infrastructures for improved data quality.
System & IT Support for Data Science Projects
• Support data science and analytics teams by ensuring high-quality, well-structured data availability.
• Perform IT functions, including system design, analysis, testing, debugging, and implementation of applications for data science projects.
• Analyze, install, modify, and support operating systems, databases, and utilities software to enhance data processing capabilities.
• Plan and conduct business problem analysis to be solved with automated data systems.
Process & System Optimization
• Analyze and design improved data flow across the organization, ensuring efficiency and scalability.
• Implement data governance and security measures to comply with pharmaceutical regulations.
• Automate and orchestrate workflows using Airflow, Prefect, or similar orchestration tools.
• Contribute to the development, testing, and evaluation of IT infrastructure architecture, particularly in higher-level roles.
Who You Are
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in data engineering or a related IT field.
• Strong proficiency in Python for data processing and automation.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services (S3, Lambda, Glue, Redshift, etc.).
• Experience with Snowflake for data warehousing and dbt for data transformations.
• Proficiency in SQL for database design, optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of data orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, etc.).
• Experience in IT system analysis, testing, and implementation related to data science projects.
• Understanding of data governance, security, and regulatory compliance in the pharmaceutical industry.
