The Opportunity

In this Data Engineer position, you will report to the Section Lead - Data & Analytics and be based in Pune, India. This role involves collaborating with multi disciplinary and multi cultural teams to build structured, high-quality data solutions, with the potential to lead technical squads. Your work will support Roche’s mission: to do now what patients need next.

The Data Engineer is responsible for:

  • Design, develop, and optimize ETL/ELT data pipelines to support data analytics.
  • Build and maintain data models, and transform data using appropriate data transformation tools.
  • Develop and implement data integrations with other systems and platforms.
  • Supervise and manage data flows to handle upstream changes and ensure flawless adaptation downstream.
  • Apply APIs and data streaming platforms for efficient data processing.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for data pipelines and related processes.
  • Create and maintain logical and physical models of datasets and applications.
  • Enhance data accessibility and search-ability across the organization.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines for data workflows and infrastructure.
  • Ensure robust security practices for data access and handling.
  • Lead automation scripts and tools to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Explore innovative methods for building, processing, and analyzing data to deliver business insights.
  • Continuously refine data quality with rigorous testing, tooling, and performance evaluation.
  • Collaborate with business and functional team members to understand data requirements and downstream analytics needs.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to ensure functional integration to meet goals and identify vital system enhancements for new product and process improvements.
  • Develop a data-driven culture and lead impactful data engineering projects within the organization.
  • Collaborate with data and analytics experts to enhance the functionality of our data systems and products and contribute to the growth of our exceptional data team.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematical Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in data engineering, data analysis, or data quality assurance.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Cloud Data Solutions (Snowflake preferred).
  • Experience with Cloud-based Data Solution Architectures, Data Engineering, ETL tools/platforms, and data modeling practices.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance and data quality activities is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python and Java and SQL and database management systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data pipeline automation and data integration.
  • Solid understanding of RDBMS concepts and database design principles.
  • Experience with DevOps/DataOps, particularly in data operations.
  • Proficiency in CI/CD tools.
  • Experience with Inmuta and Monte Carlo is a plus.
  • Strong technical proficiency with ETL/ELT technologies and data transformation tools (DBT preferred).
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, crucial for identifying and resolving issues efficiently.
  • Proficiency in working with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, are necessary to work effectively with collaborators from both technical and non-technical backgrounds.
  • Business insight with the ability to understand and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Passion for new technologies and innovative experimentation.
  • Ability to work across multiple tech domains and streams.
