Job Summary

The Data Engineer (internally known as Software Engineer III), will specialize in designing, implementing, and optimizing database systems for efficient storage, retrieval, and management of structured data. Join us as we embark on an exciting modernization journey, transitioning from our legacy platforms to cutting-edge technologies like Power BI and Snowflake. We're seeking passionate individuals to drive this transformation, leveraging their expertise to revamp our data infrastructure and propel us into the future.

*This is preferably Hybrid, twice-a-week role at our Raleigh or Greensboro offices. However, we are also open to a remote East Coast hire, as long as they are willing to come for a face-to-face interview in our Raleigh office.

Responsibilities

  • Works with the Agile Program Manager (APM), Digital Product Manager (DPM), and Business Systems Analyst (BSA) to accurately capture stakeholder requests and system specifications and translate them into engineering artifacts, which typically include design specifications, source code, test scripts and test results.

  • Leads architecture and design discussions.

  • Helps mentor junior developers and guide them through project execution.

  • Coordinates with software architects and Software engineer IVs to ensure that the engineering realization is in accordance with Enterprise Architecture principles and software development best practices.

  • As part of Agile teams, completes software development work which includes application design, coding, code review and testing. Keeps Agile team and APM apprised of project status.

  • Offers suggestions to stakeholders on devising effective and efficient approaches to achieve project and program objectives.

  • Manages engineering risks by proactively tracking and communicating issues and devising methods to mitigating them.

  • Liaises with other project and program areas to coordinate interdependencies and resolve issues.

  • Supports business units in the resolution of in-depth user questions and issues following production support process and SLA’s.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of new technology and software engineering standards, practices and tools.

  • Provides input to APM/DPM in creation of Product Roadmap, High Level Estimates

  • Collaborates with IT management to define and develop documentation & engineering artifact standards, guidelines, processes, and templates.

Experience

  • High proficiency in Snowflake inbuilt capabilities to load and validate data

  • Strong understanding of data warehouse concepts and experience with different modeling approaches like DVM, Kimball etc.

  • Experience in cloud data architecture that supports advanced analytics including Snowflake, Azure

  • 5-7 years of experience in developing reports, preferably using Power BI.

  • 5-7 years of experience in ETL using SSIS or similar technologies.

  • Strong SQL knowledge and hands on experience working with structured & semi-structured databases like SQL server, DB2 & Mongo.

  • Hands on experience in administering Cognos (Installation/Configuration, Security Setup, Scheduling, Data Source setup) & Power BI (Gateway installation/Configuration, Creating connections).

  • Hands on experience in DataOps.

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong customer service skills to provide end user/business owner systems support.

  • Knowledge of production support processes such as incident and problem management techniques.

  • Project leadership experience preferred

Education

  • Required knowledge and skills would typically be acquired through a Bachelors degree in computer science, business, or related field plus 5 to 7 years of related experience.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

$125,000 - $130,000/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
