As a Network Support Specialist, you will support the planning, execution, and sustainment of cyber testing and training events in a high-security, mission-critical environment. You will be challenged with fast-paced scenarios with dynamic technical requirements.
Position Requirements and Duties
Cyber Range Event Support:
- Configure, deploy, and manage physical and virtual systems and networks for cyber training and test events.
- Support event planning, setup, execution, and teardown including system imaging, integration, and restoration.
- Coordinate with cybersecurity teams, red/blue cell operators, and NCRC planners to ensure range readiness.
- System Administration & Lab/Testbench Integration:
- Manage Windows and Linux servers, AD environments, DNS, DHCP, and group policy configurations.
- Perform system patching, log monitoring, and vulnerability mitigation in accordance with DoD standards.
- Support configuration and integration of DoD systems within lab and testbench environments to replicate operational networks and enable realistic testing and training.
- Collaborate with engineering and integration teams to validate test objectives and support system-of-systems configurations.
Software Development & DevOps Support:
- Support software deployment, configuration management, and automation in cyber range environments.
- Leverage DevOps tools and practices (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, Git, Ansible, Docker) to streamline build/test/deploy activities.
- Participate in Agile development cycles, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and task execution in coordination with cross-functional teams.
- Develop or modify scripts and tools in languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell to automate tasks and enhance environment performance.
Network Engineering:
- Configure and manage switches, routers, and firewalls in isolated network environments.
- Troubleshoot Layer 2/3 connectivity issues and support VLAN tagging, subnets, and routing configurations.
- Implement cybersecurity controls and monitoring to meet RMF and STIG compliance.
- Technical Documentation:
- Create and update technical diagrams, event runbooks, baseline system images, and configuration templates.
- Maintain clear records of all network and system configurations, changes, and test results.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a US Citizen
- Active DoD Secret clearance (TS/SCI preferred)
- DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification (e.g., Security+ CE)
- Minimum 4 years of experience in system administration, network operations, or cyber infrastructure support
- Experience managing and securing Windows and Linux operating systems
- Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, subnets, routing, DNS, DHCP, firewalls)
- Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere/ESXi or KVM
- Familiarity with DevOps principles and experience supporting automated build/test/deploy pipelines
- Exposure to Agile development environments and working within sprint-based task cycles
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell
- Ability to support DoD lab/testbench environments including system configuration, integration, and validation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including documentation and collaboration across teams
- Comfortable working in classified and unclassified lab environments.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours during live events or mission-critical exercises.
- This position is on-site only and requires adherence to NCRC security protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Red/Blue team exercises, cyber warfare scenarios, or joint training operations
- Knowledge of DISA STIGs, RMF processes, and cybersecurity compliance frameworks
- Experience deploying and managing containerized applications (e.g., Docker, Podman)
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Ansible Tower
- Background in software development, test automation, or DevSecOps pipeline support
