The John Michael Kohler Arts Center (JMKAC) is a nationally acclaimed visual and performing arts center located in the heart of downtown Sheboygan, Wisconsin. It is within walking distance of Lake Michigan and one hour from Milwaukee and Green Bay. While other museums focus on objects, JMKAC and its recently opened Art Preserve focus on relationships with artists and the community, and on preserving and exhibiting artist-built environments. Founded in 1967, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center’s presents work by diverse artists, from the vernacular to classically trained and from local to global perspectives. The John Michael Kohler Arts Center (Sheboygan, WI) – a world-renowned museum with a mission to generate a creative exchange between artists and the public - seeks an energized, visionary, and collaborative individual who will oversee the visual direction and brand of all marketing initiatives at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center and Art Preserve with a strong focus on a compelling and consistent aesthetic. This role requires a leader who can inspire a team, manage multiple projects, and collaborate effectively across departments and stakeholders – as well as an eye for what resonated with a range of art lovers and supporters.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with programming and curatorial staff to ensure cohesive branding and messaging for all events and exhibitions.
- Manage relationships with external creative partners, including graphic designers, photographers, and videographers.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive creative strategy that aligns with the mission and goals of JMKAC.
- Oversee the design and production of all marketing materials, including print, digital, video, and social media campaigns.
- Hire, coach, take corrective action, provide direction, evaluate, and reward staff performance to support growth, organization strategic plan, and positive safe culture.
- Evaluate and analyze the effectiveness of creative initiatives and marketing campaigns, aligning data-driven decisions with visual engagement for continuous improvement.
- Develop, monitor, and adhere to department and/or organizational budgets.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Motivated self-starter and collaborative team player
- Detail oriented, with strong time management and organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks, meeting deadlines
- Knowledge of member-based nonprofits and membership fundraising a plus
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and information with absolute discretion
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, graphic design, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a creative leadership role, preferably within the arts or nonprofit sector.
- Three to five years’ previous supervisory experience.
- Strong portfolio showcasing innovative design and successful marketing campaigns.
- Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) and digital marketing tools.

The position is office/art gallery and grounds based and noise level usually moderate. May occasionally work inside or outside at events where noise level could be moderate to loud.
Hours of work include daytime hours Monday – Friday and occasionally Saturday and Sunday to meet staffing and/or event needs.
The position works at various locations depending on the schedule. This position must be able to commute between locations if needed.
The salary range for this position is $55,507 – $72,000. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, educational background, and work location.
