We require a highly skilled and motivated Automation Project Engineer to join our team as we design and implement a new aseptic filling module, module 2, in our existing Q Block facility at GSK Barnard Castle.

GSK Barnard Castle is a key secondary manufacturing site and has invested heavily in industry 4.0 state of the art, bespoke equipment to support sustained new product introductions and volume increases, and as a key supplier of some of GSK’s blockbuster products, the site contributes revenues of ~$2Bn annually.

The Automation team is a thriving part of the capital projects team with a significant portion of the site’s capital investment being placed into new technologies. The site is investing heavily in industry 4.0 state of the art, bespoke equipment to support sustained new product introductions and volume increases.

To meet the growing needs of the site the automation team are looking for a motivated, qualified engineer to join the team Q Block module 2 team. This role would predominantly be a site based and support flexible working policies. We actively support personal development and progression, external training and further education and professional registration.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Managing and coaching of the Controls & Automation discipline for the Q Block project team
  • Specifications, Procurement, Installation, Acceptance Testing (e.g. FAT/SAT) and Qualification of automation systems in a licensed GMP commercial plant
  • Integration of the new Module 2 Facility into the validated Q Block Module 1 Facility not limited to creation/changes to Digital Recipes, PCS7 and MES.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering and EHS standards relevant to the service provided.
  • Engage with external specialist companies engaged to deliver GMP equipment /  services.
  • Develop and deliver new technology strategies to benefit the new facility design.
  • Work with site Quality and Validation personnel to ensure automation and control system GMP compliance.
  • Regular contact with central groups developing new technologies and standards.

Basic Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Robotics, Electronics and Communications or similar disciplines / backgrounds.
  • Automation Project Engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:

  • Previous experience in managing multi-disciplined engineering/technical staff.
  • Demonstrable Technical and operational knowledge of Automation systems (specifically knowledge of Siemens S7, PCS7, WinCC, Keyence, Cognex and SEAVision Vision Systems, ABB and Siemens Drives, Field Instrumentation) for off the shelf and bespoke process and production equipment
  • Experience of creating Digital Recipes and MES Integration.
  • Experience with various data communication protocols and architectures, including Ethernet I/P, Profibus, Profinet, Data transfer to MES level applications, Historian and SQL Databases.
  • Generation and approval of CSV Kneat testing protocols, technical reports and documentation
  • Understanding and interpreting electrical wiring diagrams and P&ID nomenclature
  • Process and Machinery Safety (UKCA/CE, PUWER, HAZOP, SIL)
  • Appreciation of Operational Technology Cyber Security Standards and knowledge of current GMP regulations and an understanding of regulatory agencies expectations and change management in a regulated environment.
  • Achieved or working toward Chartered Engineer status
