The Control Systems Engineer, as part of the Operations and Technical department, will interface with a diverse team of personnel such as manufacturing plant operations and technical/engineering, manufacturing process experts, to maintain and improve a variety of process control systems including Honeywell Experion PKS or other Distributed Control Systems, Safety Instrumented Systems, PLC’s as well as Windows or Linux based workstations and servers.
WHAT YOU’LL OWN IN THIS ROLE:
- Promote unwavering commitment to the Synthomer Core Values, SHE Principles and Golden Rules
- Lead process control improvements that will reduce process risk, improve production processes and process reliability, reduce costs, and address quality issues.
- Identify, address, and resolve process control issues and/or lead the facility into new areas of process improvement
- Participate in Safety Studies (e.g. HAZOP)
- Determine Safety Integrity Level (SIL) classification for safeguarding instrumentation (lead SIL classification session)
- Comply with all Synthomer standards, such as Process Control Practices, documentation, Management of Change, and design review procedures.
- Troubleshoot control systems hardware and software failures for Honeywell and Microsoft systems
- Participate in projects to replace servers, develop new networks, and improve control system sustainability
- Ability to respond, via telephone mainly and occasionally in person, to off-hour callouts and requests for support
- Willingness and ability to be part of a team
- Be aware of and practice good cybersecurity habits like patching, antivirus updates, and access control to the system is expected
- Ability to solve problems and be a self-starter
- Provide technical and operational expertise for the day-to-day support of the process control systems and infrastructure
We are seeking:
- Required degree - B. S. in Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Chemical Engineering
- Ideally 3 years in chemical plant manufacturing experience, monomer/reactive chemistry utilizing batch processes - utilizing and troubleshooting process control on Honeywell Experion PKS system
- Experience in multiple new projects and maintenance of existing control systems ideally with global suppliers like Emerson and Honeywell and integration with PLC systems
these skills would set you apart:
- Process Safety Management in high hazard process, VMware/virtual machines
- TCP/IP-based network switches and routers
- VBA and/or Java
