As a Control Manager Vice President for Custody Operations, you'll be responsible for leading and building out an enhanced control framework which supports a continuous and integrated approach to risk assessment. Additionally, you will ensure the team assists in top down risk analysis, real time control issue detection, escalation, root cause analysis and remediation. You are required to lead, shape and support reviews, analysis and reports to address the risk and control agenda. These activities will complement the work already performed across the Corporate and Investment Bank by various risk and regulatory related functions including Business Control Management, Risk Management, Operational Control Management, Quality Assurance (QA), Legal, Compliance, Finance & Business Management and Audit.
Additionally, as a Global Operations Control Manager for Custody Operations in Bengaluru, you will be the regional escalation point for events that require Custody OCM leadership within the India timezone, providing the overall team manager (UK based) with progress during the APAC/ India timezone.
The OCM is a champion for Proactive Reviews, continuous controls enhancement, strategy and program and must ensure that partners, stakeholders and teams in all regions understand the direction of Custody risk and control management, participate in the appropriate Custody Operations programs and deliver on the global work-streams. Global partnership and collaboration is key to all aspects of the role.
Job Responsibilities

- Ensure that controls are appropriately designed, operating effectively, and essential to a proactive risk and control culture that leverages proven evaluation strategies and sound change management protocols.
- Govern risk proactively by identifying and assessing risks, reviewing risk events and operational errors, performing root-cause analysis, identifying themes, and implementing lessons learned.
- Perform proactive and targeted reviews, execute Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis, and the 5 Whys to identify trends and emerging risks, and pinpoint operational areas with the greatest opportunity for enhancing controls.
- Analyze program-related data (e.g., KRI/KPI) on an ongoing basis and develop ad-hoc reports as requested to support business-related programs and strategies.
- Assist with the development of Compliance & Operational Risk Evaluation (CORE) documentation through participation in end-to-end process walkthroughs and deep dives with assigned business units.
- Manage or participate in control meetings, including content and agenda preparation, action tracking, and closure.
- Provide oversight and governance across various process 'Intelligent Automation' tools, resulting in a better client experience by eliminating manual processes, mainly digital evidencing, User tools, Alteryx, FRODO, etc.
- Implement comprehensive operations risk metrics reporting and trigger-based escalation processes. Monitor and participate in raising, executing, and closing control action plans on time, and manage end-to-end issue management in CORE.
- Develop a hands-on understanding of CORE structures and content, and establish sustainable processes for evaluating the effectiveness of CORE processes.
- Coordinate audit and regulatory review interactions with audit, compliance, and regulators through the exam process, isolate themes and trends, and implement lessons learned in relevant operations.
- Curate relevant data sources, data access, and availability to support descriptive use of data, and utilize technical expertise available for Tableau, Alteryx, Signavio, etc., to obtain, analyze, and visualize information effectively and efficiently.
Required qualifications, capabilities and skills
- Graduate in any discipline.
- Accumulate a total of 12+ years of industry experience.
- Acquire 5+ years of experience in risk management.
- Utilize data visualization tools effectively.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills:
- Understand how operational risk is managed within the firm, including the data sources, tools, and governance forums leveraged.
- Analyze data in various ways and highlight key messages from the data analysis, including recommended actions.
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with global stakeholders, and present and rationalize opinions to senior stakeholders.
- Manage competing demands under time pressure and manage expectations across both Controls Management and Operations teams.
- Possess strong operations or product knowledge of Custody Operations or a similar operational structure.
- Apply data quality, data visualization, data lineage, and machine learning to develop, implement, and maintain a best-in-class governance and control environment.
