The Systems Engineering Division (SED) drives improved acquisition decisions, ensures systems are available when and where needed, and system capabilities integrate and work as needed. The division leverages a broad array of engineering disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs, customers, and national challenges. SED spans the acquisition lifecycle from development to operations.
The Vehicle and Ground Implementation Department (VGID) in SED provides development, assessment, and closure of space vehicle and ground designs to operational fielding. As a Section Manager you will be responsible for the management and technical direction of the Concept Evaluation Section within VGID. This section assesses the breadth of designs for accuracy and completeness and to ensure what is being acquired is what was asked for. You will be supporting the acquisition of the next generation of innovative spacecraft and ground systems to solve the most challenging problems of our US Space Force, Intelligence Community, NASA, NOAA, and commercial/international customers.
Work Model
This is a full-time position based in Chantilly, VA offering a hybrid work model that combines at least 4 regular onsite workdays and remote flexibility as the business needs allow.
What You'll Be Doing

  • Initiate, manage, and recommend personnel staffing requests (hiring, promoting, awards, etc.)
  • Mentor section staff both in technical and career growth
  • Participate in impactful organizational decision making at the departmental, subdivision, and corporate levels
  • Cater the development of, management, and tracking of performance developmental goals for section staff annually
  • Develop, build, maintain relationships with program offices, focusing on the Intelligence Community
  • Working proactively and autonomously with government, program office, and contractor personnel as well as other members of Aerospace's Engineering Technology Group
  • Establishing and manage high-performing teams with government, program office, and contractor personnel as well as other members of Aerospace's engineering group
  • Lead and participate in space vehicle studies, to include multi-disciplinary engineering teams, to assess breadth of space vehicle designs for accuracy and completeness
  • Participate and evaluate the feasibility of space vehicle designs during key milestone reviews such as Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, etc.


What You Need to Be Successful
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline, science, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in space systems design with a strong knowledge of spacecraft subsystems and system engineering
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt quickly to change, and demonstrate initiative under pressure
  • Strong people management, interpersonal, and communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work on a wide variety of spacecraft systems engineering tasks from concept development to launch
  • Experience in developing, leading, and working on multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Demonstrated experience in concurrent engineering tools, processes, and methodologies
  • Experience working with intelligence community and customers
  • Current TS/SSBI clearance


How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) from an accredited program in engineering or relevant engineering discipline
  • Extensive use of MS Office and other computer applications, especially in support of space vehicle design and analysis
  • Experience working with organization outside of ETG (e.g. iLab and xLab)
  • Strong, demonstrated personal initiative
  • Advanced knowledge of spacecraft subsystems and system engineering topics
  • Experience with flight programs
  • Familiarity or experience with ground systems
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
