Job Overview
Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for a Communications Specialist to support North American communications programs that effectively describe and promote Applied and its portfolio of brands to increase corporate and brand awareness in alignment with organizational strategy and messaging.
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Communications Specialist will plan and execute on high-quality communications to support our external marketing communication programs. They will create and maintain media relationships to drive earned coverage for brand awareness as well as research opportunities and develop content to create engagement through integrated communications, outreach, and promotions across a variety of marketing platforms. The Communications Specialist should possess excellent writing, interpersonal skills, and critical thinking to succeed in this fast-paced, developing professional role.
What You'll Do

  • Support global public relations program by driving the company's voice and presence
  • Formulate public relations plans and strategies across a variety of channels
  • Create comprehensive, effective and engaging external communications that align with key messages, including press releases, bylines, blogs, case studies, and other external facing communications
  • Create and maintain key media relationships and manages requests
  • Develop and own influencer program to drive company presence in new media channels
  • Assist in maintaining editorial calendars, media lists, and media coverage
  • Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or upper management


What You'll Need to Succeed
We're looking for someone who:

  • Can work hybrid from either our Chicago, Atlanta, Toronto or Dallas office
  • Is able to travel up to 25%
  • Has a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or equivalent training


Your experience should include some or all the following:

  • Minimum of 3 years of communications or journalism experience
  • Strong background in writing communications for a broad spectrum of channels
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently when required
  • Capability to prioritize tasks and consistently meet deadlines
  • Competitive spirit to win as a team
  • Use of technology including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
