The Underwriting Specialist (IRCA) is responsible for maintaining the underwriting integrity of the IRCA portfolio. This role provides underwriting support and direction to IRCA underwriters in the Commercial Auto Team and supports Corporate Commercial initiatives as needed. The role involves technical coaching, referrals, and training, including external broker training. It works closely with the Underwriting Excellence team to implement quality assurance actions and handle ombudsman escalations in collaboration with Underwriting Excellence, leaders, and underwriters. Additionally, the role supports the Claims team and the Manager, Fraud Investigation and Prevention with IRCA claim alerts, coverage questions, and fraud-related alerts.
What will you do?
- Identify technical coaching needs for individuals and develop coaching plans with business leaders.
- Provide real-time technical guidance or coaching to underwriters.
- Develop and deliver broker training based on technical file review results, trends, and broker needs.
- Deliver new hire onboarding training as required.
- Provide advice on technical underwriting questions.
- Respond to underwriting referrals within their authority and filed rules.
- Assist in developing business cases for risks outside their authority for escalation to senior management.
- Solve complex underwriting issues and deliver solutions to brokers.
- Support the Underwriting Excellence team in addressing trends and gaps found in TFRs.
- Work with broker partners to resolve TFR action items outside their ability to process.
- Assist in investigating and resolving Ombudsman complaints related to the IRCA product.
- Support Claims and the Manager, Fraud Investigation and Prevention with IRCA claim alerts and coverage questions.
- Investigate fraud alerts and resolve IRCA claim alerts.
- Be the main point of contact for Claims in investigating potential coverage or misrepresentation issues.
- Collect trends from investigations and engage appropriate business areas to develop solutions.
What will you need to succeed?
- Secondary School: Required
- Community College: Required (Business diploma or Insurance degree)
- Undergraduate Degree: Preferred (Asset)
- CIP, FCIP is an asset
- Prior commercial auto insurance underwriting experience: 5-10 years (Required)
- Experience in Insurance Contact Centre: 1 year (Preferred)
