Freelance | Remote Position

Our editorial team is looking for a dedicated News Editor to provide daily coverage for the Comics, Anime & Gaming News team.

CBR is the oldest and most respected comic book culture website in the world. We are the leading resource for coverage on comic books, film, and TV, anime and nearly every other kind of fandom. It is the internet’s first and final stop for nerd culture, news, commentary and community.

Candidates should be experts in the fields of Gaming, Anime/Manga and Comics, with up-to-the-minute knowledge of breaking news and an in-depth understanding of the latest industry trends. We want researchers whose fingers are on the pulse of the Gaming, Anime and Comics worlds, and who know exactly where to look for its most exciting developments.
 

Job Responsibilities:

● Edit 45 news articles per week

● Identify captivating news stories for CBR.com

● Craft headlines, blurbs and peripheral text to capture new and existing traffic

● Optimize SEO to capture search traffic

● Hold stories to the highest content value standards possible

● Create or identify eye-catching images

● Assign, edit and provide regular feedback to the Comics & Gaming freelance writing team

● Identify new areas of growth for CBR News

● Track and analyze traffic trends to identify best practices

● Communicate with external media partners on behalf of CBR

● Conduct any and all other tasks as given by the Lead Editor or Senior Staff.

Editing:

● Ensure output expectations are met both daily and weekly, prioritizing the publishing

calendar’s needs

● Ensure all published content is policy compliant and of the highest editorial standard

● Assign topics and headlines to writers; field pitches and only publish what is best for website

growth

● Maintain brand voice and tone; reject any salacious or non-compliant content

● Field content for plagiarism and remove writers based on a zero-tolerance policy

● Field content for AI (ChatGPT, etc.) and remove all content/contributors on a zero-tolerance

policy

General:

● Manage a large team of freelance writers, helping run our News channel on Slack, Asana

board, and sending out feedback when necessary

● Develop talent on an ongoing basis

● Coordinate with PR when required

● Be ready and available for increased responsibilities over time

● Be available for editorial meetings and content reviews/audits
