Job Description SummaryGeneral Electric Aerospace (GEA) is a leader in the industrialization of ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) for the manufacture of military and commercial jet engines. CMC’s are a technological breakthrough in advanced materials that enables a revolutionary change in the engine’s fuel efficiency, performance and emissions through lower density and fuel burn at increased temperature. GEA’s commitment to the development of CMC technology began in 2001 and has reached realization in 2016 with first deliveries of the LEAP engine for commercial narrow body airliners. Orders for LEAP, which features a CMC shroud component, have now reached 40,000 in number, reflecting the success of this product. GEA’s commitment to the implementation of CMC technology continues with the GE9X engine, the first commercial engine to incorporate multiple CMC components. The first flight powered by GE9X engines was completed in January of 2020. The CMC Strategy Process Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers that are responsible for new product introduction, automation engineering, data analytics, and tooling procurement and design that supports the manufacturing of Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC’s) in Asheville, NC.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and grow a team of engineers that support the CMC process operations for all product lines (Commercial and Military)
  • Drive APQP, NPI and MOC Activities in support of new and existing programs
  • Drive goals in support of Plant and PE team priorities
  • Serve as focal point to/from all technical & business entities related to team objectives.
  • Responsible for continuous management & ownership of assigned scope, including management of change process, equipment needs, component industrialization, structured problem solving.
  • Accountable for driving special projects to ensure effective industrialization to meet yield and cost targets.
  • Responsible strategy & vision of Asheville automation processes and new product introduction
  • Work boundlessly within the organization.
  • Grow the tooling management system including procurement and design
  • Build data analytics team to support current and future needs.
  • Articulate progression of projects and/or programs to all facets of the business, including technicians, process engineers, site leadership & executive business leaders, ensuring efforts support business goals & objectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/as needed to support 24x7 manufacturing processes.
  • Work to ensure consistent and timely communication occur on shop floor concerns as well as project updates and timelines.

Required Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree accredited  college or university (or a high school diploma/GED with at least 10 years of experience in manufacturing experience)
  • Minimum of 5 years of technical manufacturing experience

  • Strong acumen in executive level communications & engagement
  • Strong knowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles, experience, passion & demonstrated track record of implementation.
  • Experience working cohesively with Certifying Agents, Controlled Title Holders and/or Leadership teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects with established project management skills.
