About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer to join our Commercial and Corporate & Investment Banking Technology (CCIBT) Organization as part of a Cloud Solutions Architecture and Frameworks Implementation team.  In this role as a Principal engineer, you will envision, document, and champion target state and transitional architectures that enable the creation and migration to a target state platform and operating model for our businesses.  The ideal candidate will have expertise in architecting and designing solutions that promote reusability, scalability, efficiency, and resiliency and possess strong communication skills to articulate the proposed solutions with both technical and business partners. You will take a lead role in supporting our Technology initiatives and help drive the build and rollout of new applications, tools, platforms and services within our cloud environments. You will be empowered to always take the initiative, propose ideas, and innovate to enable modernization and Cloud adoption.

In this role, you will:

  • Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, infrastructure, landing zone, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
  • Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
  • Provide vision, direction, and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
  • Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Vision & Application Roadmaps for Infrastructure and Cloud
    • Translate the technical vision and goals to target state architecture with clear options for any tactical versus strategic trade-offs
    • Develop and maintain 3–5-year application target state roadmaps aligned to the firmwide, business, and technology initiatives
    • Decompose future state goals into actionable execution plans
  • Infrastructure and Cloud Principles and Standards
    • Develop technical standards, guidelines, and reference architectures based on industry trends and best practices around the implementation of infrastructure buildouts and cloud-based solutions
    • Documenting standards, best practices, and perform mentoring of both application and production support teams on how to best make use and support the solutions being put into place
  • Diagrams & Documentation
    • Author and maintain application use case, sequence, system context, and topology diagrams
    • Document integration patterns and options
    • Document Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery capabilities for applications
  • Solution Designs
    • Assist development and production support teams to produce infrastructure and cloud migration strategies in alignment with the overall strategy and priorities established by senior leadership
    • Define and document path to production for infrastructure as well as on-prem/public cloud including provisioning, deployment, monitoring, and resiliency
    • Design solutions that are fit for purpose, scalable and evolvable such as paths to production for infrastructure as well as cloud
    • Translates business requirements into well-designed recommendations supporting working foundational platform components thus ensuring functional and non-functional aspects are met
    • Evaluating any project constraints and devising alternatives to reduce risks, whilst performing process re-engineering
    • Conducting regular evaluations of the infrastructure, cloud architecture and collaborating with teams to improve the designs
    • Performing continuous research on emerging technologies to stay updated with the best alternatives and to improve the existing architectures
    • Work with engineers to build, test, and present proofs of concepts to demonstrate architectures and patterns as well as help prove out the best options
    • Define infrastructure and cloud-based solutions appropriate to the project requirements and constraints ensuring isolation and minimizing cross-neighborhood impacts

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 7+ years of defining infrastructure solutions
  • 5+ year’s experience with cloud-based architecture both on prem and public
  • 5+ year’s experience in Azure building out subscriptions, defining and implementing deploy processes
  • 5+ year’s experience with OpenShift private cloud
  • 5+ year’s experience Strong understanding of Service-Oriented and microservices architectures

Desired Qualifications:

  • 4-year BS degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience in provisioning, operating, and maintaining systems running in the cloud
  • Must be able to work on multiple projects and consistently meet project deadlines
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, able to build rapport and communicate effectively at all levels and across disciplines
  • Detail-oriented, strong work ethic and high standard of excellence
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Recent experience in a collaborative Agile working environment (Scrum preferred)
  • Deep understanding of cloud technologies (GCP, Azure) and familiarity with data center exit strategies
  • Knowledge and understanding of Big Data technologies (Data Lake, cloud-based infrastructure), architectures that support real-time analytics; and flexible data models to support querying of unstructured data

Pay Range
 

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.

$144,400.00 - $300,000.00
